RAND FEB 13 - MORE JOYOUS DOMINATES RIVALS IN LIGHT FINGER STAKES

By Scott Gooley | Monday, February 15, 2010

Randwick, February 13, 2010.
Track - Slow 7. Rail - True.
Light Finger Stakes (Group 2 -3yo Fillies - Set Weights) - 1200m.
Time: 1-09.80. (Carrying 56kg).
1. More Joyous. 2. Trim. 3. Sweepstaking

More Joyous has returned to racing with a devastating win in the Group 2, Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick.

Having her first start since taking out the Group One Flight Stakes in October of last year, the three year old filly jumped from the outside gate in the field of nine runners.

Piloted by Nash Rawiller, More Joyous ($2.20 fav) bounded straight to the front and was leading comfortably after 200m, a length in advance of second favourite, Trim ($3.10).

Rounding the home turn Rawiller, who still had a good hold on the daughter of More Than Ready, began to drift wider on the track in the search for firmer ground.

Racing past the 300m mark, Trim was the only serious challenger to More Joyous but try as she may, she was no match for the Gai Waterhouse trained star, who raced away in the final 200m to record a brilliant one and three quarter length victory.

Sweepstaking ($6.50) claimed third, a further two and a quarter lengths behind Trim.

As always, Waterhouse showed great confidence in her filly.

“I had to have a little laugh after she won because everyone was pulling on her tail and mine going into the race and I just thought her class will prevail and that’s exactly what it was.”

“I loved the way she showed blistering speed and skipped away from her rivals and, as I said in the spring, you won’t see anything but her heels this preparation.”

“She’s got a lot more improvement. I can assure you of that.”
