SKIRT THE LAW PULLS UP IN GOOD ORDER AFTER HER SCINTILLATING MAGIC MILLIONS WIN

By Graham Potter | Friday, January 20, 2023

This morning’s confirmation that Skirt The Law, Queensland’s $2 million Magic Million’s Two-Year-Old Classic winner, has pulled up well after her magnificent effort at the Gold Coast yesterday has completed a perfect result for the connections of the Better Than Ready filly.

“She has pulled up in good order,” said Gollan, speaking in a voice still hoarse from yesterday’s exertions. “You could say she’s pulled up better than her connections.”
Gollan has already achieved so much as a trainer, but his reaction after the race yesterday was a telling one in terms of what this Magic Millions Classic win meant to the stable.

“It’s an amazing day. She is better than I even dreamt of ... it is a dream come true to be honest,” said Gollan post-race, seemingly in awe of Skirt The Law’s performance.

“She executed everything well. the race went just as we planned ... the way we wanted ... and she was very dominant,” continued Gollan.

“Only time will tell how good a race it was. I hope it turns out to be a good two-year-old form race ... but she is a bloody good filly, and I can’t wait to take her down south and show her off in Sydney.

“This win is right up there with the Group 1’s. This is as good as I’ve ever felt after winning a race. I normally take everything in my stride, but this win has got me pretty emotional.

“I feel so much. You know, I first came here as a strapper, strapping horses for my dad in this race.
“It feels like a monkey off my back now to win the race. It seems like we have been trying fir a while ... which we have.

“I’m not really noted as a two-year-old trainer at times, so to do that today with a very nice filly like that ... it does mean a lot.

“I’ve just got an awesome ownership base. I’ve just been very fortunate with my ten years in Brisbane. The stable has expanded a lot ... and we hope results like this help bring us more good horses.

“We hope it keeps on going, but we won’t get ahead of ourselves. Right now, we just want to take the time to enjoy this win.”

Skirt The Law remains unbeaten in three starts with a now burgeoning bank balance after netting both the $1 160 000 first place prize-money payout in the Magic Millions Classic as well a $325 000 first prize from the $500 000 Magic Millions Women’s Bonus for being the first all-female owned runner past the post.
