KAH WOWS THEM IN HONG KONG

By Graham Potter | Monday, January 30, 2023

“I’m pretty speechless. It’s been a very special day. I’ve had such a great experience here with some beautiful horses I have ridden. I was speechless after and I got goosebumps – it’s hard to make me speechless, it was a very exciting day.”

Fair to say Hong Kong is growing on Jamie Kah, whose post-comments after her scintillating win aboard Voyage Bubble in the Hong Kong Classic Mile at Sha Tin on Sunday must have given the Hong Kong racing authorities some encouragement in their quest to entice the star Australian rider to accept an extended riding contract in their racing precinct, a task they have been trying to accomplish in recent times and one which they will undoubtedly pursue with renewed vigour now as Kah continues to ramp up her reputation and support amongst Hong Kong’s racing fans.

After her win at International Jockey’s Championship at Happy Valley in December, Kah indicated that she was not looking for a full-time gig in Hong Kong, but the more she visits there and finds success, the more she might get a taste for the international experience ... and, with Hong Kong racing authorities pulling her in that direction, whose to say something like a three month riding stint there might not be in play in the future.

Already, Kah will return to Hong Kong next month ... with trainer Ricky You already engaging her to once again ride Voyage Bubble in the Hong Kong Classis Cup ... the second leg of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series. (The Hong Kong Classic Mile was the first leg of the series).

The third and final leg is the BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) on 19 March.

“I might be racking up some frequent flyer points soon, I’m very happy with today and I’ll be back for sure, especially for the bigger races, I’ll make time to come back because I’ve had such a great day here and everyone has been so welcoming,” Kah said.

Champion trainer Casper Fownes praised Kah for her earlier ride aboard his horse Royal Bomb (the first leg of Kah’s double on the day), and then he arguably spoke for all of the Hong Kong racing fraternity when he said, “she’s a great jockey and I hope we can get her here.

“We need someone like her. I’ve been watching her career for a long time and she’s gifted. Hong Kong could benefit from having her here. Horses run for her, it’s wonderful to see how well she’s done and hopefully she can have Hong Kong on the radar for a stint in the near future.”
