CAUL FEB 27 - TYPHOON TRACY ‘ALL RACEHORSE’

By Scott Gooley | Monday, March 1, 2010

Caulfield, 27 February 2010.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 3m.
Futurity Stakes (Group 1 - Open - Weight for Age) - 1600m).
Time - 1.34:43. (Carrying 57kg).
1 Typhoon Tracy; 2 Dao Dao 3; Sniper’s Bullet.

The wonderful four year old mare Typhoon Tracy recorded her third consecutive Group 1 victory when winning the Rokk Ebony Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trainer Peter Moody describes the mare as being ‘all racehorse’ and nobody doubted his word as Typhoon Tracy (1.60) dominated her six the rivals in both the betting ring ($1.60) and on the track, winning by two and three quarter lengths.

Ridden by her regular jockey Luke Nolan, Typhoon Tracy jumped well from the outside gate and was prepared to sit second, three quarters of a length behind the leader Joku.

Typhoon Tracy shadowed Joku throughout however, when the pace quickened nearing the home turn, the Peter Moody trained mare took a couple of strides to hit top gear.

Straightening for the run home Joku, who had left the fence, was joined by Barbaricus on his inside and by Typhoon Tracy, who was staking her claim four wide.

Shortly after, Typhoon Tracy began to assert her authority and established a healthy advantage over her rivals.

Joku and Barbaricus were no match for the daughter of Red Ransom in the run home and were subsequently passed by Dao Dao (7.00)and Sniper’s Bullet (6.50)who went on to finish second and third respectively.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Moody: “She’s all racehorse, you know. When she is made to work, she produces the best.

“I suppose she is like a lot of good athletes. When they can back off they do it and when they need to extend they also do it.

“She always goes through that flat fifty to one hundred metres where you sort of think ... crikey, are we going to kick but, thankfully ten out of thirteen times she has.

“I genuinely thought that was the best lot of horses she’s beaten. It wasn’t the biggest field, but I think class-wise it was the best lot. So for her to do that tells me she has improved.

“I just watched B Prebble walk back past on the second horse. Maybe he can tell me a bit about Hong Kong. Whatever the case, she’ll have her next run in Sydney ... be it the Coolmore, the Queen Of The Turf or the Ryder ... it will be one of those races. I wouldn’t imagine it would be any more than one of those.

“You know Hong Kong would be a possible option, but that will be up to the owners. We’ll have a chat tomorrow because if we are looking to go down that path she needs to be vaccinated.

“But, like I said before there are a lot of good races here for a lot of good prize-money. I suppose the big carrot now is that she is the first one eligible for the big bonus’s associated with this Asian Mile Series.”

Jockey Luke Nolan: “She is a treat to ride. She is a treat to have anything to do with. You only have to look at her in the yard now and her attitude.

“She takes it up a bit ... but she knows she is the ‘king mum’ at home and she gets her way. It is hard not to be blown away by what she can do on the track.

“I know there’s been small fields these first two times in, but she’s won very well both times.

“I don’t know where the plans lie, but at the moment she’s got the most of the Weight-For-Age horses around here covered.

“That flat spot ... yeah, like last time we travelled into the corner off the steady sectionals and she kicked off it. Today, I had to chase her off good sectionals and ... well, when I get serious on her so does she.

“She’s in for the fight. She’s very courageous. When challenged she kicked to that next gear and she was just too good.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
J Waddell (Lord Tavistock) was issued with a severe reprimand for using his whip in a forehand manner on seven occasions, two more than is permitted under the provisions of AR.137A(5)(a)(ii) and was also reminded of his obligations that it is an offence to use his whip in consecutive strides.

B Prebble (Dao Dao) was fined the sum of $300 for using his whip in a forehand manner on eight occasions, three more than is permitted under the provisions of AR.137A(5)(a)(ii).

B Rawiller, reported on the scales that he felt something was amiss with Joku inside the 200m and as a result, he eased the gelding down over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of Joku revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.
