TOP FILLY OOZES QUALITY IN A VERY IMPRESSIVE TRIAL

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, February 14, 2023

Skirt The Law, the unbeaten, Golden Slipper-bound filly, strolled to an uncontested six length win in a trial at Doomben over 1000m on Tuesday morning, without ever raising a sweat.

Just what is more exciting ... Skirt The Law’s willingness to take on what is asked of her or the seriously scary underlying superior level of ability she shows whenever she steps out ... is up for debate, but the fact that trainer Tony Gollan has a genuine Golden Slipper contender is not in doubt.

This morning’s trial was just that ... a trial ... but what it did do was emphasise the well-being of the daughter of Better Than Ready as she moves towards her Sydney campaign following her perfect first preparation in which she landed three wins from three starts, a sequence which culminated in a rousing success in the $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic, where she triumphed by a clearcut 1.50 lengths.

That Magic Millions success came on the back of two impressive wins which were achieved by a combined winning margin of eight lengths.

That already stamped Skirt The Law as being a very smart filly. The Magic Millions Two-year-Old Classic win took her beyond that, both in terms of performance and reputation.

“She’s a ready-made two-year-old. She’s shown us that from the get-go to be honest,” said trainer Tony Gollan, speaking on RadioTAB.

“All she does is improve. She wants to please you. She wants to do her job. She really enjoys being a juvenile racehorse and that takes her a long way. She’s an impressive filly.

“Both Ryan (Maloney), and myself, were adamant coming here (on Tuesday), with the two bits of work we have done with her since the Millions, that she has improved.

“I’m positive she has and we’ll see a better filly in Sydney than we have so far in Queensland.”

Skirt The Law is scheduled to line-up in the Sweet Embrace Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on February 25 on her way to the Golden Slipper three weeks later, on March 18, for which she is currently marked up as an $8 fancy.
