WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, MARCH 4

By Darren Winningham | Friday, March 3, 2023

Eagle Farm this week. Nine races with the track rated ‘Good’. The rail is out 4 metres for the entire circuit.

Before going any further, I must just say a big congratulations to Jimmy Orman and Heidi Whalley who got married on Thursday!

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

I suppose I must tip The Red Kite (11) – the amount of times I have been told to “go fly a kite” have been numerous over the years! Mark Currie trains this runner with Ben Thompson in the pig skin. He resumed for the new stable here a fortnight ago. A solid run first up run - placing second – should strip fitter for that runner.

Kapsali (8) is from the Brett Dodson stables in northern NSW. This runner has always shown some ability. He is undefeated at the mile – two starts and two wins. Matthew Bennett – the ranga from NSW will ride – I will try and catch up with him at the track. Kapsali is super each way odds at $14.

Selections:

11 – The Red Kite
8 – Kapsali
4 – Hokahey
2 – No Turning Back
Rough chance – (3) He’s The Ultimate

Race 2

Interesting runner here from the Rodney Northam stables in NSW – Jacenza (4). Three career starts for three wins.

Resumes here and won a solid trial recently in arrogant fashion. Drawn well, the winkers go on for the first time and Kyle Wilson Taylor (KWT) will ride. It is his first look at this track – however, he looks well above average.

Beast Mode (3) is trained by David Vandyke on the Sunshine Coast. Is another runner who is undefeated in three starts. Has had an eight week freshen up – faces the starter for the first time in Saturday company – looks well placed by this astute stable – Brodie Loy will ride.

Hard To Say (1) seems to thrive in Queensland. Is the quality runner of the field – Ashley Morgan will ride again.

Selections:

4– Jacenza
3 – Beast Mode
1 – Hard To Say
2 – Mubariz
Race 3

Selections:

1 – Tavi Time
2 – Mishani Missile
8 – Tapildoodledo
7 – Syrian Star

Race 4

Selections:

3 – Five Star Vixen
8 – Mishani Royale
6 – Glass Of Rose
11 – Sunshine Highway

Race 5

Selections:

5 – Mister Moderation
4 – Mishani Raider
10 – Top Gun
8 – Spin Doctor

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie over 1820 metres.

Mohican Heights won here two starts ago over 1800 metres. Then raced at Rosehill over 1900 metres and performed well. He is back to a more suitable class of race and distance. Look for him to be competitive again here for the Chris Waller Racing team – Brodie Loy will ride.

Namazu (2) won last time out here over a mile on this track. He went to the line well last run. Is trained by Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted – with Ben Thompson to ride.

Trevelyan (11) is down in weights and on a track he enjoys. Malea Castle will claim her 2 kilograms – she will ensure he has every possible chance.

Selections:

1 – Mohican Heights
2 – Namazu
11 – Trevelyan
6 – Point Counterpoint
Rough chance – (7) She’s The Gift

Race 7

First leg of the Treble. A race over 1200 metres.

I like the Chris Munce runner Delyth (13). She is fourth up, down in the weights and Mark Du Plessis aboard (who rode a race to race double last weekend) is aboard.

Birriecart (4) is the early race favourite. Trained by the Group 1 winning team of Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted. Resumes here with Boris Thornton aboard. Has an excellent first up record and his recent trial was impressive – keep him safe.

Selections:

13 – Delyth
4 – Birriecart
11 – Bitcoin Baby
7 – Deepour

Race 8

The Robert Heathcote trained The Big Goodbye (6) will be well supported by the many owners of the QLD Rogues. Jaden Lloyd will ride him. He comes off a solid win at Doomben three weeks ago.

Hilal (1) is a newcomer to the Tony Gollan stables. Has an array of gear changes – however, his recent trial would suggest he is set for a bold showing first up in QLD – stable apprentice Angela Jones will assist with her claim from the huge 60.5 kilograms that he has been assigned.

Take you pick for the rest of them in my opinion.

Selections:

6 – The Big Goodbye
1 – Hilal
8 – Viral
4 – Snowzone

Race 9

Lovely Esteem (16) is a Chris Waller Racing runner with Sam Collett riding. Was run down last start over the mile at Doomben. I think dropping back to 1400 metres she should be strong at the end of the race. There is a substantial amount of speed in the race – this should suit this mare.

Matowatakpe (1) is trained by Jack Bruce and Brodie Loy rides. This runner is third up and silly odds for mine at $25. He has a superb third up record and despite carrying the top weight he gets the race tempo to work nicely into the race late.

Tilianam (15) is a Gollan Racing runner who has drawn wide. Has the services of Angela Jones who won on her last time out at Doomben over 1350 metres. I think she faces some stiffer opposition this weekend and may get found out late.

Highlights (12) from the Cody Morgan yards resumes from a 20 week freshen up. Has been trialling well and I think may sprint well here fresh with Jaden Lloyd aboard.

Selections:

16 – Lovely Esteem
1 – Matowatakpe
15 – Tilianam
12 – Highlights
Rough chance – (4) Stuttering & (3) Rock Amore

Jockeys Challenge

Looks like a competitive field with chances for Ben Thompson, Brodie Loy, and Andrew Mallyon. On paper Ben has the best to win – maybe a sly saver on Brodie – he should be at a decent price.

Early Quaddie (races 2 to 5)

1,3,4 / 1,2,8 / 3,6,8,11 / 4,5,10 - cost is $108 to $1

Value Early Quaddie (races 2 to 5)

3,4 / 1,2 / 3,8 / 4,5 - cost is $16 to $1

Quaddie (races 6 to 9)

1,2,11 / 4,11,13 / 1,6 / 1,15,16 - cost is $54 to $1

Value Quaddie (races 6 to 9)

1,2 / 4,13 / 1,6 /16 - cost is $8 to $1

Treble (races 7 to 9)

4,11,13 / 1,6 / 1,15,16 - cost is $18 to $1

WINNO V FLEMO

The battle continues with WINNO and FLEMO. We were both average last weekend – time to move on. Maybe a good start to the weekend with the Broncos getting flogged! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
