GOLDEN SIXTY PRIMED TO COMPLETE A HAT-TRICK OF FWD CHAMPIONS MILE VICTORIES

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, April 27, 2023

Golden Sixty stepped out on the course proper at Sha Tin on Thursday in his final hit out in the lead up to the HK$20 million FWD Champions Mile on Sunday.

He was ridden by his regular jockey Vincent Ho who was happy with the effort after clocking 1m 26.5s (33.3, 30.2, 23.0) over 1200m. The final 400 metres was impressive.
Golden Sixty is looking for a hat trick of wins in the FWD Champions Mile (Group 1) after winning for the first time in 2021. He then ran a slashing race demolishing the opposition in 2022.

Trainer Francis Lui said: “He looked great when he walked past (after galloping). Everything is smooth and I am very happy with him.”

No horse has won the FWD Champions Mile three times.

Vincent Ho and Australia’s Brett Prebble are the only jockeys with three wins in the race.

Come Sunday the record books could be re-written!

Meanwhile Oberon, trained by Australian Annabel Neasham, had a quiet time on the all-weather surface.

He looked in fine order partnered by track rider Shari Jamie.

As far as the New Zealand runner Aegon is concerned, trainer Andrew Forsman who arrived in Hong Kong last night and made his way to Sha Tin this morning. said they didn’t want to do too much work.

“We didn’t want to have a searching gallop and he basically worked off from the 800m and quickened up a little bit.”

The race was best summed up by Zac Purton at the press conference who said “the race is Golden Sixty’s to lose '' ... going on to say he thought the opposition would be unable to beat him.
