VINCENT HO'S STELLAR SEASON SET TO CONTINUE

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, April 27, 2023

Top Hong Kong jockey Vincent Ho is seeking to break a personal record on FWD Champions Day 2023.

Ho’s previous 67 wins came in the season (2019/20). He now sits on 67 and is looking to post his most successful season ever.

With over twenty meetings remaining in the Hong Kong Racing season – the way he is going he could possibly ride 100 winners in the current season.

Ho has ridden 50 winners in his past five seasons in Hong Kong – something that he is extremely proud of, particularly when you are up against the likes of Zac Purton and Joao Moreira.

With the departure of Moreira, the opportunities have swelled for Ho, and he has taken it all before him.

Ho already created history back on 19 March when he became only the second home grown jockey to ride 500 winners in Hong Kong following in the steps of Tony Cruz. Cruz who holds the record for local home-grown jockeys of 946 wins prior to retiring and becoming a prominent Hong Kong trainer.

Ho will ride the Hong Kong champion Golden Sixty in the FWD Champions Mile (Group 1) on Sunday. He is looking to set another record by winning the race for the third consecutive time and pocket some of the HK$20 million prize money. An astounding HK$14.4 million to the winner of the race.

Ho partnered Golden Sixty when he worked on the turf on Thursday morning. The hit out was impressive and looked like it topped him off nicely for his grand final on Sunday.

After the hit-out Ho said, “He’s well and he felt good. He’s fit, and he looks amazing. He felt great underneath me.”

Ho has been impressed with the Japanese runner – Danon The Kid, who he will ride in the HK$25 million FWD QEII Cup (Group 1). He last raced in Hong Kong in the LONGINES Hong Kong Cup (Group 1) in December when he was a gallant second to Romantic Warrior. They will clash again in this race and Ho is quietly confident that he can reverse the result of that race and post a win for Japan.

Australia’s James McDonald has been booked to ride the Danny Shum trained Romantic Warrior who has not won since the victory in December.
