SCST FEB 28 - LINES LEADS FROM START TO FINISH

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Sunshine Coast, February 28, 2010.
Track - Cushion.
Maiden Plate (Set Weights) - 1100m. Time: 1-07.44. (Carrying 56.5kg).
1 Lines; 2 Lucky Label; 3 Whisky River.

The John Thompson trained Lions scored his first win in his fifth career start. Gear changes were the order of the day following his defeat at the Gold Coast last time (in his first start in Queensland). The blinkers came off and the tongue-tie and the winkers went on.

Taken to the front by jockey Chris Munce, Lines held a comfortable lead to the turn. He kicked well enough in the straight to never be in any serious danger of defeat, but Munce did have to niggle at his mount to keep him focused all the way to the line.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Toby Edmonds (assistant trainer to the John Thompson stable): “Lines has got probably more ability than most horses. He got up and raced really keen … probably got his tongue over the bridle … at the Gold Coast the other day.

“We just pulled the blinkers off and dropped him back in journey a bit (from 1400m to 1200m). She was too good for them here today, but I don’t think he is probably going to go too far. We’re probably going to sell him on now.

“I’ve got thirty-four or thirty-five horses (at Patinack’s Gold Coast stable) at the moment and we’ve got to go through them and see which ones have had their chances … and just need to move them on, you know, and just get the whole joint flowing.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Lines): 2.50 out to 2.70.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Princess Priscilla (O. Turpin) began awkwardly. Lucky Label (A. Kitson) and Highashee (K. Cross) were slow to begin. Wouldn'thaveaclue (T. Huxham) was inclined to hang in for the majority of the event.
