WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, JUNE 4, 2023

By Darren Winningham | Saturday, June 3, 2023

A massive 8 race program – I am certain there will be a big crowd in attendance.

Kilcoy Race Club always has something extra for the public to enjoy. As well as the thoroughbred races, this meeting will feature Fashions On The Field and also mini trotters.

$10 to get in at the gate – a cheap day out at a wonderful country racecourse.

The track is rated ‘Good’. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. This track does sometimes tend to favour horses who have won here before – and horses that race on the speed.

Mostly selections only for this meeting,

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Selections:

3 – One In All
6 – Muirlea Magic
7 – Oro
8 – Super Duck

Race 2

Danny Peisley makes his debut at the Kilcoy track for Maryann Brosnan’s runner Ancient Mission (1) – will probably sit in behind the speed and run over them late.

Selections:

1 – Ancient Mission
2 – Better Believe It
10 – Mishani Mystique
3 – Heartonhersleeve

Race 3

Selections:

7 – Gerrymander
1 – Poet’s Day
5 – Spirit Of Milan
3 – Good N Lucky

Race 4

Selections:

4 – Super League
5 – Little Vista
1 – Canny Be Better
8 – Emperor’s Secret

Race 5

First leg of the Quaddie

Solid chance here from the Steele Ryan stable – Ships Ahoy (1). Last start winner at the Sunshine Coast in Maiden grade. I see that Dale Smith retains the ride – surprised that he will get out of bed on a Sunday and come to sit on one. One thing is for sure he will be doing something as he makes his way onto the track – I will see if I can capture it with the cameras!

Selections:

1 – Ships Ahoy
2 – Better Than Booze
5 – Sea Commits
6 – Aurora Dancer

Race 6 KEITH BEAVIS & CARL BARTELS MEMORIAL KILCOY CUP

First leg of the treble.

The feature race on the program is over 1200 metres.

Lindsay Hatch and Jai Williams combine here with Gamboa (2) who is second up. Is drawn well in barrier 1 and will just sit in behind the speed. Hopefully the leaders peel off the track on the turn and he rails and gets the job done and wins, despite the huge weight – Jai’s claim will come in handy.

I think another apprentice could win the race as well. Montana Philpot has come back after an injury that saw her out of the saddle for 12 months. She has been riding winners and displaying that amazing form she had prior to her injury. She rides Wine Not Roses (12) for Stewart and Taylah Mackinnon. The mare comes off a solid win at Gatton over 1100 metres and steps up in distance. She has not won over 1200 metres – but I think there have been excuses when she has raced over this distance. I think that Montana will give her a quiet run in the race and hopefully she will be hitting the line strong late.

Selections:

2 – Gamboa
12 – Wine Not Roses
6 – Mishani Fraudster
3 – Azzareach

Race 7

The Annabel Neasham runner, El Asteroid (5) has the blinkers going back on. He has won third up in his last preparation and I think looks well placed here to get back into the winner’s circle. El Asteroid (5) will be ridden by Georgina Cartwright and has one career win – ironically here on this track!

Matt Kropp trains Tomboy’s Spirit (6), a last start winner on this track and distance. Apprentice Corey Sutherland claims 4 kilograms off his back. He has drawn barrier 1 and should race on the speed – if he gets his own way in front, he may prove difficult to run down.

Selections:

6 – Tomboy’s Spirit
5 – El Asteroid
1 – Critical Thinker
9 – Atlantic Royal
Rough chance – (12) Skilled Artist

Race 8

The last race of the day! A tough way to finish the day as well with this race over 1900 metres.

Selections:

2 – Damreel
4 – Cloudy Miss
6 – Bartalumba
12 – Secret King
