BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR GOLDEELUCK

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 14, 2023

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Goldeeluck has suggested he had learnt how to win last time out when he produced a spirited late charge and hit the line hard to claim a victory which had looked unlikely with 100m left to run.

That new-found focus and sense of purpose would be tested again … but in different circumstances … when Goldeeluck lined up for a Class 2 Plate over 1500m at Warwick on October 14, this time with Nozi Tomizawa in the saddle in a race in which he would jump as the $3 favourite.

As per his previous race pattern, Goldeeluck raced in midfield, back in sixth place some five lengths off the speed, hugging the inside running rail for the first half of the race.

The long-time leader Jimmy Neutron ($6) still held the advantage as he brought the field into the home straight, but his rivals were now lining up to have a shot at him and, of those, courtesy of that rails hugging ride, Goldeeluck, saving ground, was quickly up to second place and now in full cry after Jimmy Neutron.

The latter did kick on, but Goldeeluck took his measure just inside the 200m mark to sweep into the lead.

Not that the job was done yet. He still had to ward off a wall of challenges.

Flash Zaroiz, a $61 chance in spite of being a last start winner at Dalby, proved to be the most threatening of the chasers, flying down the centre of the track to get within 0.20 lengths of Goldeeluck at the line with Motion Legend, Goldeeluck’s market-rival at $3.70, finishing a half-a-length further back in third place.

Back-to-back wins, wherever they are, is always a pleasing result.

In the first of those Goldeeluck had finished strongly from behind. In this one he he dug in, hanging tough, to hold on to what he had … both races thus contributing to his racing experience while also raising his level of confidence.

That’s three wins and six placings now from only eleven starts.
