WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, OCTOBER 28, 2023

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, October 26, 2023

DOOMBEN this week ... the new ten race card version.

Doomben has had a track maintenance that included it being cored and some top dressing being placed on it. This is the first time we have raced on it for at least 4 weeks.

The track rated “GOOD”. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Michael Rodd is resuming in the saddle as this weekend after injury has sidelined him for an extended period. He is an amazing jockey with wonderful hands – he will soon be seen in the winner’s stalls for sure!

The forecast is for maybe some rain in the lead up to the meeting – keep your eye on the track conditions if the rain arrives

A big congratulations to Ben & Stephanie Thompson on the birth of their son in September. Congratulations guys!

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

A Class 6 race over 1350 metres. A small field.

Selections:

5 – Argyle Pink
1 – Bitcoin Baby
3 – Ain’t She Lovely
6 – Tyresa

Race 2

BM78 over 2000 metres – these are always tough races.

Selections:

3 – Blackcomb
7 – Go Millo
12 – Satay Chicken
4 – Early Thoughts

Race 3

The first leg of the early Quaddie with ten races on the card.

The two-year-old runners step out here over 1110 metres and Les Ross has 6 runners in the field.
Mishani Suspect (9) with Mark Du Plessis to ride – won on debut and looked like he still had some improvement left in him.

Looks like a Mishani trifecta for mine! The Les Ross and Mike Crooks’ Mishani Enterprises to get the chocolates again here.

Selections:

3 – Mishani Suspect
7 – Mishani Rock
1 – Mishani Fire
9 – Serial Offender

Race 4

Class 3 over the mile.

Selections:

4 – Rising Pacific
1 – Blakmax
9 – Poetic Drama
11- Sebring Girl
Rough chance – (13) Hallside Martini

Race 5

BM68 over 1110 metres.

Selections:

6 – Heluva Barty
4 – Emperor
12 – Casrock
17 – Thankful Heart
Rough chance – (9) Zoumeteor

Race 6

Last leg of the early Quaddie. Class 3 over 1200 metres.

Welcome back Michael Rodd! He rides Larrikin Road (4) for Chris Anderson. The gelding has a good fresh record. Has drawn wide in barrier 12 – however, he does normally get back in his races and storms home. There is some speed here and this should set the race up nicely for him.

Matthew Dunn has Lubrication (14) resuming – has been gelded and has been trialling well. Keep safe with Jimmy Orman to ride.

Selections:

4 – Larrikin Road
14 – Lubrication
15 – Midnight In Tokyo
5 - The Face
Rough chances – (16) Wish I Had & (3) Husson’s Revenge

Race 7

First leg of the Quaddie – open field here over 1100 metres for the three-year-old runners.

Rob Heathcote trains Abounding (3) who resumes here with Martin Harley in the saddle. She won a recent barrier trial in solid time – look for a bold effort here.

Addriel (7) is from the Annabel Neasham yards. He is second up after a torrid run first up where he finished off nice to run a solid third. Has won previously second up – Damien Thornton will ride.

The interesting runner is the Chris Munce trained Cryptoshare (8) with Robbie Dolan riding. Won on debut at the Sunshine Coast leading all the way and slaying the opposition – jumps up in distance and straight into weekend grade – the stable must have a good opinion of this runner.

Selections:

3 – Abounding
7 – Addriel
8 – Cryptoshare
5 – Golden Decade

Race 8

Class 6 race over 1350 metres.

Edmonds Racing and Cejay Graham are forming a lethal combination lately. They combine here with Preach (3) looking to post a hat trick of wins. Up in grade, but should get all the favours left alone in front.

Selections:

3 – Preach
2 – Release The Beans
5 – Our Magnus
1 – National Choice

Race 9

BM80 over 1600 metres

There are at least 4 or 5 runners that will try to surge to the lead here.

Secret Tales (14) is on the quick back up from last weekend. She should appreciate the mile as well. Sam Collett will ride here, and she has ridden her to two previous career wins – super each way odds at $26.

The stable mate is Eagle’s Crag (11) who has been scratched from race 4 for this race. He is the prohibitive, short-priced favourite with Ben Thompson riding. He resumed for his new stable at Eagle Farm over 1500 metres and stormed home to go down by a pimple – extra distance and a solid second up record – must be respected.

I have just gone for some value.

Selections:

14 – Secret Tales
11 – Eagles Crag
2 – Rousseau
8 – Magic Conqueror
Rough chance – (4) Menazzi

Race 10

Well, it is the last race! A massive field over 1200 metres at BM78 class level.

Solid runner from the Gollan Racing yards – Millane (8) with Jimmy Orman aboard. Resuming here after some good efforts over the Brisbane Winter Carnival. A solid recent barrier trial – if he brings his Winter Carnival form to this race, he will be difficult to hold out.

Selections

8 – Millane
13 – Outlawed
14 – Compassionate
12 – Hakkai Maru
Rough chances – (7) Nashira & (5) Beaux Rumble

Jockeys Challenge

Looks like a super open battle – Robbie Dolan, Martin Harley, Damien Thornton and Justin Huxtable – maybe something sneaky on Martin, who rode a double on Wednesday, to win.

Early Quaddie (races 3 to 6)

1,3,7 / 1,4,9 / 4,6,12,17 / 4,14,15,16 - cost is $144 to $1.

Value Early Quaddie (races 3 to 6)

3,7 / 1,4 / 4,6,12 / 4,14 - cost is $24 to $1.

Quaddie (races 7 to 10)

3,7,8 / 2,3,5 / 2,8,11,14 / 3,12,13,14 - cost is $144 to $1

Value Quaddie (races 7 to 10)

3,7 / 2,3 / 8,11,14 / 8,13,14 - cost is $36 to $1

Treble (races 8 to 10)

2,3,5 / 2,8,11,14 / 8,13,14 - cost is $36 to $1.
