DOOM MAR 31 - ACCOUNTING JUST GETS THERE

By Graham Potter | Thursday, April 1, 2010

Doomben, March 31, 2010.
Track - Dead 5. Rail - out 6.5m.
Maiden Handicap (3yo Fillies) - 1110m. Time: 1-05.48. (Carrying 58kg).
1 Accounting; 2 Dancing Duo; 3 Dubailand.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Toby Edmonds (assistant trainer for the John Thompson stable): “All these horses who’ve been coming up here and winning are really only running up to their Sydney form. That’s basically all it is ... they are just coming up against a slightly lower class.

“She was good enough here. She is a really nice filly. She’s got a bit of ability and got a bit to learn. You’d think she’s get a mile ... 1350m at least. Maybe a mile.

“She’s got a habit of being slow away. She was slow away in Sydney and, again, she nearly cost herself the race today.

“We hope she is up to something bigger. We’ll chase black type with most of these fillies that are winning ... only to prop up the stud basically. That’s why he (Nathan Tinkler) has bought them. If we can get a little Black Type in their pedigree it makes them more valuable at stud.

“I not going to say, yes she will or no she won’t. You never know. We’ll find out ... but we are going ok.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Accounting): 1.90 in to 1.80.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Accounting (C. Munce) was slow to begin. Bikinsky (J. Taylor) and Peach Baby (K. Sawyers) jumped in the air at the start. Vipera Gold (W. Moore) and Bitasuga (D. Tanti) made contact on jumping away.

Bikinsky raced greenly in the early stages.

Approaching the 800m Accounting, when being restrained, shifted out and made contact with Tribute To Valour (M. Hellyer).

Bikinsky raced wide throughout without cover. Doin’ Deals (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Katsidis regarding the performance of Calemore. S. Katsidis explained that the filly began only fairly and was forced to raced wide throughout and when placed under pressure in the straight Calemore initially responded to this riding but then weakened from the 300m. S. Katsidis added that in his opinion the filly was not entirely disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of Calemore failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Trainer K. Martin was advised that Peach Baby, which trailed the field throughout the event and finished a distant last, would be required to compete in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again for what stewards deemed to be an unsatisfactory performance.

A post-race veterinary examination of Peach Baby revealed that the filly had sustained a superficial laceration to the near-fore pastern.
