DOOM MAR 31 - COOL EDITION WINS AS SHE LIKES

By Graham Potter | Thursday, April 1, 2010

Doomben, March 31, 2010.
Track - Dead 4. Rail - out 6.5m.
Class 4 Handicap - 1350m. Time: 1-19.70. (Carrying 53kg).
1 Cool Edition; 2 Kyros; 3 Mirabeau.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Tony Crane: “I’ve got to show some receipts to prove that I put through a change of gear (blinkers went on for the first time), but we’ll worry about that later on.

“This is her first start for me. I’ve had her for a little while ... probably about five or six weeks, but, yeah, this is the first start for me.

“She’s had a few little issues. The chiropractors have been working on her pretty hard. We’ve also just been changing things up a bit. As mares do, they taper off a bit and sometimes they want to think about being a mom instead of a racehorse, so you’ve got to find a way to motivate them.

“Yeah, like I say I’ve had a couple of chiropractors working on her. They’ve obviously done a good job and it’s good to get such a positive result.”

Jockey Paul Hammersley: “Yeah, it caught most of us by surprise it had blinkers on. It worked a treat.

“The horse jumped super. There was a decent speed on and she travelled very well. She is a better horse out in the open so she can run home and she showed her better class today.

“She responded straight away when I asked her for an effort. I actually thought I might have got there too soon, but she was tough enough to keep going. That was good.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Cool Edition): 5.00 out to 5.50 in to 4.80.
Favourite (Kyros): 1.80 out to 2.00. Finished second.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACTS:
Bigga’n’betta (J. Taylor) and Siong Tee (Matthew Palmer) were slow to begin.

Stewards permitted Cool Edition to race in blinkers following a verbal assurance from trainer T. Crane that he had made the appropriate application for the mare to race in this gear. A public announcement was made to this effect.

The matter was adjourned to allow Mr Crane to provide evidence to support his assurance that the gear change had been made.
