DOOM MAR 31 - FAVOURS TRADED BACK ON WINNING TRAIL

By Graham Potter | Friday, April 2, 2010

Doomben, March 31, 2010.
Track - Dead 4. Rail - out 6.5m.
Class 3 Handicap - 1640m. Time: 1-38.49. (Carrying 56.5kg).
1 Favours Traded; 2 Mr Boogiewoogie; 3 Dusty's Felt.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Bailey: “He is quite a promising horse. He is a big, light fella. He’ll improve as he gets a bit more strength about him.

“He just wants a bit of time, you know. He is just a big, weak fella. We’re looking after him a bit. He was always going to run the ground (the 1600m trip). There were no worries about running the ground. That’s not a problem.

“We’ll just keep him going. There are a few of those races during the Winter Carnival he might be up to ... you never know.

“He can stay. I think he’s got the makings of a good, little stayer. I think once he gets to 2000m he’ll be better again. We’ll just let him go along a bit quietly, you know, because he is a bit weak ... that’s the only worry with him.”

Jockey Glen Colless: “He is just a horse that is going to get better as he gets over further. There were no worries about him going the mile second-up. He is only a light little fella.

“I thought today I would just put him to sleep. I thought there would be a good tempo on. It worked out that way and he hit the line good.

“Second-up and he was getting to the line strong. We’ve got something to look forward to in the future.”

Colless only returned to race-riding the previous Saturday following an operation to remove a toe. HRO asked Colless how he was travelling.

Colless: “I’m travelling fair. It’s still tender.”

Colless only had two rides (aboard Cavaliered and Age Of Heroes) on his first day back on Saturday and he finished second on both occasions. Favours Traded was his only ride at this meeting.

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Favours Traded): 3.80 out to 4.00 in to 3.90.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT;
Schillinsworth (S. Katsidis) began awkwardly, which resulted in S. Katsidis becoming unbalanced in the saddle.

American Gangster (J. Taylor) raced three wide in the early stages before assuming the lead approaching the 1000m.

J. Bowditch, the rider of Charlotte Courtney, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that after passing the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear of Ashma’s Gold (J. Byrne), resulting in that horse being tightened for room and having to be checked and Rock Rave (S. Bogenhuber), which was following, also having to be checked as a consequence.

J. Bowditch's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 3 April, and expire at midnight on 14 April 2010.
