RHILL JULY 17 - OOPSY DOOPSY SNARES HUS DER LIEFTEN IN FINAL FEW STRIDES

By Garry Legg | Sunday, July 18, 2010

Rosehill Gardens, July 17, 2010.
Track - Dead (5). Rail - out 6m.
BenchMark 78, Handicap (3yo’s) - 1400m.
Margins - Head, 1.25 lengths. Time: 1-24.51.
1 Oopsy Doopsy ($7); 2 Hus Der Lieften ($4); 3 We Betcha ($9).

Good even break from the gates and Hus Der Lieften, ambled to the front for Nash Rawiller. Counterpane sat at his girth and jockey Corey Brown was content to let Rawiller dicate terms. Oopsy Doopsy dropped into the box seat and Prost sat one out one back.

There was not much change in the order until the point of the turn when Prost started a three wide move to finally put some pressure on the leaders. At almost the same time Rawiller tried to give those tracking him the slip and gave Hus Der Lieftan a couple of back-handers and the colt slipped to about a two length break.

Tim Clark immediately started to get busy on Oopsy Doopsy and she responded to give chase.

At approximately the 200m Oopsy Doopsy drove through between Prost and Hus Der Lieftan and just kept grinding away before finally claiming Hus Der Lieftan in the last few bounds to get up and score.

We Betcha filled the placings with a fast finishing effort from last to third.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Greg McFarland: ‘’She is going very well. She’s still got more in her, but probably more next preparation. We thought about black type, but she’s still got a few chinks in her armour at the moment, which will strengthen up over time.

‘’ I’d say in probably another six months you’ll see a better horse again.

‘’She’s been working well on the wet tracks here at home, I’ve been very confident with every race that’s why I’ve placed her in these races here in town.

‘’Ahh, look, I thought every race she’s been in was a great run. I think to have those odds this morning … I don’t know what they’re thinking … but anyway it’s good to be a small trainer sometimes I guess.

‘’She’s a very good horse, Johnny Grisedale, I gotta commend him. He does a lot of work with her and he’s been fantastic for the stable and it’s a shame he couldn’t ride her today. But Tim Clark, my hat’s off to Tim he rode tremendous, it’s great to have another win."

PRICES:
Winner (Oopsie Doopsy): 7.00
Favourite (Counterpane): 2.60. Finished fourth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
When questioned regarding the performance of Break Card, B Shinn stated that the filly was not suited by the slow early tempo and, when the leader sprinted at the 400m, Break Card was unable to pick up ground.

Trainer Mr G Ryan stated that Break Card had done well going into the race and its effort was most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of Break Card did not reveal any abnormalities.

Mr Ryan undertook to report back if there is anything amiss with Break Card subsequent to the event and advise on the future race plans for the filly.
