WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, MARCH 16, 2024

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, March 14, 2024

EAGLE FARM this weekend. The track is rated ‘Good’. The rail is out 0.5 metres for the entire circuit.

NRL and AFL are back – upsets everywhere.

Then there was the Gold Coast last weekend – highlighted by upsets all day.

Hopefully this week we can get some more fancied runners winning and cashing us up.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

A two-year-old race over 1400 metres to start the day – a small field.

The Stuart Kendrick runner – Can’t Recall One (1) won impressively on debut over 1300 metres. Michael Rodd will ride. Looks well placed – he is a short-priced favourite to win again.

Mishani Reactor (6) is trained by Les Ross Racing – they just keep winning these races and they have Sam Collett combining here with this gelding. They combined last weekend to win the two-year-old JEWEL at the Gold Coast.

Dance Me Randy (2) is from North QLD and has won two of his four races. He is trained by Georgina Bourke and - hold the phone – Jackson “McLovin” Murphy is back in town to ride this one. No dramas Jackson I will pack a GPS to help you get around the track! Seriously welcome back to weekend metro racing mate!

Selections:

1 – Can’t Recall One
6 – Mishani Reactor
2 – Dance For Me Randy
3 – Mr Crowning Moment

Race 2

A Class 1 grade race over 1200 metres. A very open field.

Tony Gollan Racing is well represented here. Two solid chances.

Grand Meteor (13) will have Angela Jones riding. Led in Open grade last time out and tired late and got run down. Down in grade for this assignment - he wins the race.

To Wish (8) is the stable mate with Jimmy Orman riding. She won her maiden here two starts ago at a midweek meeting then went out to Ipswich – I think she didn’t handle the track. Forgive that run – nicely drawn here for this race – she gets all the favours.

Lumens Lenny (6) was sensational on debut at the Gold Coast winning by more than 6 lengths. Scott Morrisey trains this gelding and despite drawing barrier 18, I think he can be competitive in this race. He raced in Open Quality grade last time out – big downgrade in class for this race – should be thereabouts. Ryan Maloney will need to get him in a nice position from the awful gate.

Deferentail (5) was run down late here – he will be better for that run – has been posted the early favourite for the race. Is trained by James Healy with Damien Thornton to ride. Has drawn barrier 1 – no excuses this week.

Selections:

13 – Grand Meteor
8 – To Wish
6 – Lumens Lenny
5 – Deferential
Rough chance – (4) Bonded Affair

Race 3

A BM70 class race over 1400 metres.

Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted train Naval Trader (5) with Justin Huxtable aboard. Was second up last start when a good third on this track. Has previously performed well third up and looks well placed.

Millarense (14) is trained by Brian Wakefield with Sam Collett riding again. This mare won here two weeks ago. She looked good on that occasion – she was unwanted in the betting there, starting at $26.

Iverson (7) resumed for his new stable when winning first up at Doomben. Trained by Robert Heathcote and again to be ridden by Michael Rodd – he will appreciate this grade. If he handles the track he could post back-to-back wins.

Tip Of The Spear (3) is not without an each way chance.

Keep safe Damo Dayz (9) who has the blinkers going on for the first time after some recent indifferent efforts for Gollan Racing – Ryan Maloney will ride.

Selections:

5 – Naval Trader
14 – Miliarense
7 – Iverson
3 – Tip Of The Spear
Rough chance – (9) Damo Dayz

Race 4

A BM78 race over 2400 metres – these distance races are always a lottery.

Kris Lees Racing has Oakfield Wallaby (3) who made his debut in QLD after racing in midweek grade in Sydney last start at Eagle Farm when defeated by Disputed River (5). She meets that runner better at the weights here – can she turn the tables? Andrew Mallyon will ride again.

Disputed River (5) is racing in career best form with a hat trick of wins. This Stuart Kendrick runner is looking to post four wins – Jake Bayliss retains the ride. He thrives on this track.

Clyde (4) has been racing consistently without a win – Michael Rodd goes on here – maybe he can change the fortunes of this runner.

Selections:

5 – Disputed River
3 – Oakfield Wallaby
4 – Clyde
10 – Bak Da Man
Rough chance – (2) Chayse N Artie

Race 5

A Class 6 race over 1400 metres.

The Matthew Dunn Racing runners Rainbow Connection (1) and Tribeca Star (4) look like they have the race between them. Tribeca Star (4) defeated the stable mate last time at Grafton. Was a soft effort in the end, winning easily. I think that the result will not be reversed. Ryan Maloney will ride here.

Jimmy Orman rides that stable mate Rainbow Connection (1). He does meet the stable mate worse at the weights.

Brentwood (5) from the Gollan Racing yards should fill the trifecta result.

Selections:

4 – Tribeca Star
1 – Rainbow Connection
5 – Brentwood
6 – He’s Heaven

Race 6

An Open grade race over 1500 metres for the three-year-old runners.

Sharp Dazzler (2) has won his past three starts here – his latest win being over 1400 metres. He goes up in distance, but I think that he is good enough to get away with this race. Sears Racing trains him – he gets in well at the weights and Bailey Wheeler will ride and claim 2 kilograms.

The Tony Gollan runner looks well placed. Transatlantic (4) resumed last time out and was not suited by the muddling speed in the race. He steps up to a more suitable distance, however, I think once he gets to the mile we will see the best of him. Angela Jones will ride.

Side Show (3) is trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou in NSW. They are notorious for their hit and run missions with their runners. Jimmy Orman has the ride. He is just moving through his grades after winning a maiden two starts ago. He looks like he will appreciate the distance. Look for Orman to stalk Wheeler in the running and attempt to outride him late.

Selections:

2 – Sharp Dazzler
3 – Side Show
4 – Transatlantic
7 – New Joy
Rough chance – (5) Pinkus

Race 7

The first leg of the Quaddie.

BM68 class race over 1800 metres.

Kris Lees Racing have Cave Diver (8) in the race – has had a 6 week freshen up after a slogging run on a heavy track last time out at Sunshine Coast. I think the heavy track brought her unstuck – she has a good third up record – I just hope the break between runs does not find her a little under prepared. Bailey Wheeler has the ride.

Brian Smith trains Bella Tivaci (9) who raced well over this distance two starts ago. Then they dropped the mare back to a mile and she never fired. I think back to the longer distance she can bother the judge at big odds – around $10. The other thing is that apprentice Dan McGillivray is riding and will claim 3 kilograms – this will be a factor late in this race.

Triple Money (3) is trained by Paul Shailer – did not enjoy the heavy track last time out – may pay to overlook that run – Ryan Maloney will ride.

Aldeenaary (15) is trained by Chris Waller Racing. Is third up here – was sent out at $61 last time at Doomben over the mile. He got too far back – however, was noted to be making ground late and running on strong. His best efforts have been over 2000 metres. I think that at this stage of the preparation he is ideally placed – Jimmy Orman will ride.

Selections:

9 – Bella Tivaci
15 – Aldeenaary
8 – Cave Diver
3 – Triple Money
Rough chance – (13) Dancethenightaway

Race 8

A three-year-old race here over 1200 metres. First leg of the Treble.

Robert Heathcote Racing is well represented here. Press Link (2) is the early race favourite – undefeated in two career starts and Michael Rodd riding. He won last time out at a midweek race at Doomben. Has drawn poorly in barrier 11 and is stepping up to 1200 metres for the first time - cannot back him with confidence at $2.60 especially with the large 59.5 kilograms he has to carry.

Now the stable mate – Allumeur (13) won at a midweek race over 1200 metres. It was only a maiden class race, and she did ping the gates and lead throughout. Jake Bayliss retains the ride. She did run a good time – if she can back up that effort, I think she can cause an upset at $16.

Bravely (3) is a Matthew Dunn Racing runner who has won his past two starts at Grafton. First time in the big smoke – Ryan Maloney will ride – looks progressive and stays under notice.

Tellez (5) is a Chris Waller Racing runner. First time in QLD after racing at midweek class races in NSW. I think the 1200 metres will see him perform well – Jimmy Orman will ride.

Rough chances to Spin Doctor (1) and Capital Chase (6).

Selections:

13 – Allumeur
2 – Press Link
3 – Bravely
5 – Tellez
Rough chance – (6) Capital Chase & (1) Spin Doctor

Race 9

Open class race here is over 1200 metres.

Star Of Chaos (14) is a Gollan Racing runner – looks well placed on the minimum. Has drawn in barrier 14 which may be a drama as this mare likes to lead. In saying that there is not much speed in this race – she should get an easy lead and dominate the race. Angela Jones will ride. Could be in front for a long way – hopefully her fitness will hold out.

Ranch Hand (4) is second up for his new stable – Gollan Racing. Solid effort first up - will strip fitter – Ryan Maloney will ride.

Northern Express (7) is trained by Michael Nolan. Easily won five weeks ago at Doomben – was dominant in that win. Has had a solid barrier trial win since this effort. Taylor Marshall retains the ride. Just have some reservations on his strike rate on the Eagle Farm track.

Mishani Sniper (2) is a Les Ross trained gelding. Steps up in distance will have the benefit of a 3 kilogram claim for apprentice Jake Molloy.

Arentee (3) is trained by Chris Meagher – he seems to always pop up here at Eagle Farm – Melea Castle will claim 3 kilograms – he looks well weighted at his best. Will race in behind the speed and will not spend a penny from barrier 4 – good each way chance at $9.

Selections:

14 – Star Of Chaos
4 – Ranch Hand
7 – Northern Express
3 – Arentee
Rough chance – (2) Mishani Sniper

Race 10

A BM78 over the mile – it is the last race!

Kokonotsu( 8) is trained by Tony Gollan and has Jimmy Orman aboard. Solid effort first up at Doomben and stepping up to the mile he will be tough to beat. Has won second up – must be respected.

The stable mate is Blazen Boots (13) with Angela Jones riding. First up over 1350 metres at Doomben – was storming home – I didn’t miss the run – this horse is super odds to cause an upset.

Seneschal (14) is trained by Stuart Kendrick with Bailey Wheeler to ride. He was well supported last time out and got beaten in the final stride by Thesecondatportsea (16). He meets that runner 2 kilograms better for that defeat – then a 2 kilogram for Wheeler makes it 4 kilograms – you would think that it would mean he should beat him home this weekend.

The Secondatportsea (16) is trained by Jack Bruce and she has won her past two starts going from strength to strength. Damien Thornton remains on her – she will be super competitive here again.

Hyde (1) was scratched from an earlier race for this – huge weight – but has a solid chance.

Selections:

10 – Kokonotsu
14 – Seneschal
13 – Blazen Boots
16 – Thesecondatportsea
Rough chance – (1) Hyde
