ROMANTIC WARRIOR SET FOR SUNDAY, BUT A COX PLATE DEFENCE IS NOT ON THE CARDS

By Darren Winningham | Friday, April 26, 2024

The Danny Shum trained Romantic Warrior will attempt to win the HK$28 million, FWD QEII Cup, for the third consecutive year at Sha Tin on Sunday in a result which will create Hong Kong racing history!

Danny Shum just smiled and said “oh yes” with that anticipation of another Group 1 victory on home turf.

WINNO caught up with him after the big race barrier draw on Thursday at Sha Tin.

Shum was happy with the barrier 10 allocated to his superstar.

“The draw is important. It is not that good, but pace in the race is more important.” Said Shum.

With continued rain in the lead up to the race, Shum was concerned with the rain and not knowing how Romantic Warrior would handle the wet track. However, he was positive that the Sha Tin racecourse will be in good order saying, “the track is very unique, if it does not rain for a few hours, it will be good to firm, we will not know till the day.”

He praised Romantic Warrior saying, “he is very good to me and all my stable and my family. All the Hong Kong people love him!”

Romantic Warrior is scheduled to go to Japan after the FWD QEII Cup race in June.

Shum was asked about the prospect of Romantic Warrior returning to Australia to defend his Group 1 W.S. Cox Plate title at Moonee Valley.

“I don’t think we will go back to Australia,” indicated Shum.

“It is quite tough. I think we will keep him in Hong Kong or race closer ... like Japan”.
