KICKATINALONG MAKES SOME NOISE
By Graham Potter | Saturday, February 8, 2025
Kickatinalong, a four-year-old chestnut mare trained by Tony and Maddysen Sears, struck gold in only her second career start, winning first-up by a comfortable 2.47 length margin in a Maiden Plate over 1100m at Gatton on February 8.
The daughter of Magnus had finished third on debut back in May 2024, but she was then away from race action for a full nine months before coming out to take on this Gatton assignment with Luke Tarrant in the saddle.
Jumping from a number eight barrier, Tarrant had Kickatinalong away in the leading line and, in spite of being caught five-wide, he continued to press forward keeping the Sears trained runner right in the firing line all the way to the home turn.
On straightening, Kickatinalong was about to move up alongside Kobi Ascot ($4.80), who had gained the lead early in the straight, and the contest became a race in two over the next 200m before Kickatinalong’s concerted effort found its reward and Tarrant drove her to the front in confident fashion over the final 120m to score an impressive victory by that decisive 2.47 length margin.
