ORMAN EARNS LICENSE EXTENSION IN HONG KONG

By Graham Potter | Friday, June 27, 2025

The Hong Kong jockey Club has announced its licensing decisions for the 2025/26 racing season. Of particular note in the list that has been released is the name of Jimmy Orman, who has been rewarded for his efforts, since getting a short-term mid-season call up, with an eight-month part-season Club Jockey’s license which will extend to February 2026.

This is the second license extension that Orman has been granted and is one that has multiple benefits, not least in terms of the confidence-boost it should provide for the rider … but also because of the stability and consistency, in terms of Orman’s availability, that it provides for owners and trainers looking to use Orman on a regular basis moving forward.

This is big news for the three-time Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership winner … who doubtless would have made that four titles in-a-row had he not shifted his attention to Hong Kong … as he looks to further build his profile in the Hong Kong racing precinct.

The license extension is an acknowledgement by the Hong Kong Jockey Club that Orman has been working hard to make the most of the opportunity offered to him thus far. That is a hard-earned accolade.

Full season licenses have been granted to Zac Purton, High Bowman, Andrea Atzeni, Brenton Avdulla, Luke Ferraris and Karis Teetan who currently fill the first six places (in the order listed) in the 2024/25 Jockey’s championship.

Full licenses have also been granted to Alexis Badel, Harry Bentley and Lyle Hewitson who are currently placed in ninth, eleventh and twelfth place respectively.

Orman was one of three riders granted an eight-month license into the new season, the others being Keagan De Milo and Richard Kingscote.

Ten local riders were also granted licenses with eight being given freelance jockey’s licences … including Matthew Poon and Matthew Chadwick, who currently sit in seventh and eighth place respectively in the Jockey’s Championship … and two receiving apprentice jockey’s licenses for the 2025/26 season.
