KING YOSHI DOES IT AGAIN - THAT'S THREE-IN-A ROW

By Graham Potter | Saturday, July 5, 2025

The Billy Healey trained King Yoshi shrugged aside any doubts about tackling the extra ground when came home with something to spare over 1200m to land the Provincial Sprinters Series Final … a BM80 Handicap … at the Sunshine Coast.

This result sealed a third successive win for the four-year-old son of Supido who is now a six time winner, with all of his career wins coming at the Sunshine Coast … five on the turf and one on the Poly Track.

Jumping from a wide barrier draw (barrier eight out of ten), Angela Jones had no hesitation in taking King Yoshi forward and King Yoshi had the lead before the field had travelled 100m … and, once there, Jones was happy to allow King Yoshi to stride out.

King Yoshi enjoyed a trouble-free two length lead mid-race and Jones kept the Healey trained runner at a comfortable gallop approaching the home turn.

On straightening, the 1200m test came into focus … he had come up short in his only previous start at the distance … but there was no sign of any pressure from King Yoshi who maintained a resolute gallop all the way to the line to claim a solid win.

Jones handled King Yoshi to perfection, helped to a large degree by the relationship she has established with the horse. This was the fifth time the King Yoshi / Jones partnership had come back as winners.

“This horse has just improved and gone from strength to strength,” said Billy Healey. “He has just improved throughout the prep. His soundness has never been better.

“I had a query on him over the 1200m, but the horse is in form, and he is deep into his prep. I said to Ange (Jones) before if he is ever going to win over 1200m this will be the day.

“That’s the way to do it. Just let him roll along. Early on you probably think he is going along a bit quick. Ange sums it up pretty quick on him.

“She just knows him so well. She’s won five out of his six wins on him.”

In spite of coming into the race with two wins on the trot, King Yoshi was easy to back at $7.50.

The race favourite Caspernova ($2.15) did enough to claim second place, but he was still 1.42 lengths adrift of King Yoshi at the line and never looked like threatening the outcome.
