YELLOW BRICK TAKES HIS SHOW ON THE ROAD

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, August 20, 2025

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Yellow Brick is scheduled to line up in the Group 3 Show Quality at Randwick on Saturday.

The six-year-old son of The Mission will go into the race first-up nearly two-and-a-half months after he made a mockery of his starting price of $41 when storming home to claim a huge runner-up result in the $3 million Stradbroke, finishing less than a length behind the highly rated War Machine.

For the Sears camp, that outcome was no surprise. The co-trainers have never wavered in their belief that Yellow Brick is a very good racehorse capable of holding his own against the best of opposition and this trip to Sydney for the Show Quality … and for the program mapped out for Yellow Brick immediately beyond that … is just a natural progression of the policy of allowing Yellow Brick to push the envelope to give him the opportunity to fulfill his true potential.

At the time of writing, the Randwick track is rated a Heavy 10 with more rain predicted to fall, but Tony Sears has indicated Yellow Brick will in all probability face the starter irrespective of conditions, although a very heavy track is certainly not the Sears camp’s preferred option.

Andrew Mallyon, who rode Yellow Brick to such good effect in the Stradbroke, keeps the ride.

The Show Quality is contested over 1200m. The plan is then to take Yellow Brick to the Group 3 Bill Richie over 1400m on September 20 … before taking aim at his Grand Final for this Sydney campaign … the $1.5 million Group 1 Epsom Handicap over 1600m at Randwick on October 4.

This will be Yellow Brick’s third Sydney campaign.

In 2023 that came down to only one run when plans were brought to an abrupt half after Yellow Brick endured a gut-busting in the Silver Eagle … but last year’s visit was a very positive one with Yellow Brick running fourth in the Five Diamonds Prelude and then third in the $2 million Five Diamonds itself, results which added $237 000 to his prize-money coffers.

Relatively lightly raced for a six-year-old, Yellow Brick is an eight-time winner, has finished second seven times and third once from his twenty-two starts.

Yellow Brick’s total stake earnings currently stand at an impressive $2 484 350.
