2026 COX PLATE VENUE REVEALED

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, August 20, 2025

It’s been locked in.

The 2026 Cox Plate will be run at Flemington.

The move from its traditional home at Moonee Valley has been ratified by the Racing Victoria Board, in consultation with the Moonee Valley Racing Club.

This significant change of venue is due to the fact that the Moonee Valley track will be closed for at least twenty-one months after this year’s Cox Plate to undergo redevelopment.

It will be an historic occasion in that the 2026 edition will be the first time the Cox Plate has not been run at Moonee Valley.

As announced by Racing Victoria, ‘The wagering, attendance, engagement and commercial implications of the venue transfer were key considerations for RV and MVRC in their respective decision making, with Flemington determined the track best placed to maximise attendance and turnover, whilst ensuring a contest befitting the race’s elite status.

‘Following an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, MVRC’s backing of the VRC’s bid to host comes with the support of their Principal Partner, Ladbrokes, who will continue their role as the sponsor of the 2026 Ladbrokes Cox Plate meeting at Flemington.

RV Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Morrison thanked everybody involved in the process.

“We thank all Clubs and commercial partners that were involved in submitting bids to the MVRC and congratulate the VRC and their partners on a successful bid,” said Morrison.
