MOOR, HUTCHINGS SET TO CALL QUEENSLAND HOME

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, September 3, 2025

The lure of the Sunshine State has enticed another two top line jockey to make the move north and join the seemingly ever-expanding jockey ranks in South-East Queensland which has become more competitive season upon season.

Just days after Daniel Moor confirmed he would be moving from Victoria to Queensland, another Group 1 winning jockey Rory Hutchings, has announced his decision to move from New South Wales to South-East Queensland.

Both moves are imminent, with Moor and Hutchings both expected to be in action in Queensland withing two weeks.

Moor has saluted in four Group 1’s. He had a hot spot of form in 2021 winning the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on Sierra Sue and the Moir Stakes on Wild Ruler, just six days apart in September 2021 … and then Manikato Stakes aboard Jonker in October 2021, and the Australasian Oaks on Glint Of Hope (in April 2022).

Hutchings has won three Group 1’s … all in New Zealand. As an apprentice he won both the New Zealand champion apprenticeship title and the Sydney Apprentice Jockey’s Premiership.

Both Moor and Hutchings have cited decreasing opportunities in Victoria and New South Wales respectively as one of the main reasons for weighing up their future options and electing to make the change.

They have also both stated they are under no illusions that, in spite of the impressive enough resumes they bring with them, nothing short of a one hundred percent commitment and a lot of hard work will be required fir them to establish a secure presence in their new environment.
