RORY HUTCHINGS LANDS FIRST METROPOLITAN WINNER SINCE RELOCATING TO QUEENSLAND

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, October 1, 2025

Rory Hutchings landed his first metropolitan winner since relocating to Queensland when he piloted the Matthew Hoysted trained Seismic Boom to victory at Eagle Farm.

The Spirit Of Boom filly, who was on debut after showing up well enough in two progressive trials, landed close to the leading line at the break, but Hutchings then elected to take her back to worse than midfield allowing her time to find her own comfortable rhythm.

That left Seismic Boom with some four lengths still to make up when Hutchings brought the Hoysted trained runner four wide on the home turn, when lining up a clear run down the home straight.

From there Seismic Boom (the $3.10 second favourite) gradually began to gain what would turn out to be winning momentum and, although she only got to the $3 favourite Crypto Miss inside the final 100m, that was when Seismic Boom was doing her best work and she pulled away over the concluding stages to win by a widening margin to claim a solid win in her first taste of race action.

Hutchings, who has three Group 1’s in New Zealand behind his name, had his first rides since relocated to Queensland on September 13.

His first winner since making the move came at the provincial meeting at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday, so the Seismic Boom win made it two winners … and counting … from his last two meetings for Hutchings, arguably a clear sign that he has moved past the settling in period and is ready to make his mark in his new surroundings.

STORY UPDATE: Hutchings made it two winners from two rides at Eagle Farm when he followed up his win on Seismic Boom with a further success on Mintaka Lad for trainer Paul Shailer in the sixth race on the card
