OUR JEWEL IN THE WINNERS' ENCLOSURE AT GRAFTON
By Graham Potter | Monday, September 22, 2025
It’s been a fairly long road getting Our Jewel into the winners’ enclosure, but that goal was achieved when the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained four-year-old saluted at her eleventh attempt when taking out a Maiden Plate over 1710m at Grafton on September 22.
From March 24 to June 2025, Our Jewel was in the care of trainer Joe Pride in New South Wales where he raced six times and trialled eight times, in fact trialling five times before even seeing race action. Her best place finish there was one third placing.
Transferred to the Sears yard for the new season, Our Jewel claimed three third place finishes in her first four starts for the Sears training partnership … twice finishing less than a length behind the winner … before taking on the Grafton assignment.
With Andrew Mallyon taking the reins on Our Jewel for the first time, the daughter of Brutal topped the betting boards at $1.80 at the off (in from $2) with Think Of One being her only market rival at $2.50.
While Think Of One did finished closest to Our Jewel in the race finish, the contest was never as close as predicted by the betting, with the Sears trained runner winning in untroubled fashion by a clearcut 2.13 length margin.
