FLEM NOV 02 - TINY INFLUENTIAL MISS IS ALL HEART

By Taron Clarke | Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Flemington, November 2, 2010.
Track - Slow 6. Rail - Out 3m. Penetrometer: 4.83.
Schiavello Plate 4YO+ Mares Handicap - 1700m.
Time: 1-43.74. 600m Sectional: 36.66. (Carrying 53kg).
1 Influential Miss; 2 Well Rounded; 3 Charlies Queen.
Margins: 1.0L x 0.1L.

Mornington based trainer Pat Carey tasted success early on Melbourne Cup day with his five-year-old mare Influential Miss in the second event on the card.

Coming off a decisive win on Cranbourne Cup day, Influential Miss was sent out an easing 26.00 chance against better performed mares.

Despite being small in stature, the daughter of Carnegie gave her rivals a start and a beating and took her earnings to just shy of $113,000.

It is a tidy return for the owners of the mare whose outlay was just $3500 for her at the 2006 Inglis June Yearling Sale. She has now won four of her eighteen starts and been placed in a further five races.

Influential Miss won by a neat length over Well Rounded who raced in the inferior going. There was a nose back to Charlies Queen in third.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Pat Carey: “It's really lovely to come here and win a race Cup day, or any day of the carnival, in particular for Clanbrooke, who have supported me well.

“She was an inexpensive buy. She was part of the Darley reduction sale and was purchased as a weanling.

"She's a very small filly, I think she weighs about 415 or 416 kilos, which gives a lot of people out there with a small horses hope.

“She's a really well-bred filly. She's on that magical Carnegie or Sadler's Wells-Daacha cross and they love this type of ground.

“She got back … got balanced … and had a smooth run into the ride. It was a beautiful ride by Steven (King) and he gave her every opportunity to let down.

“Nice filly … ideal ground for her … good turn of foot and a good result.

“We actually targeted this race for her a fair time ago and, you know, it’s just nice to turn up on the day and win.”

Jockey Steven King: “It's the first time I've been on her. She's only a little horse, but she's certainly got plenty of heart.

“I was back and actually quite wide. Even though we were a little bit deep she seemed to be comfortable there.

“I just gave her plenty of room in the straight and she finished off really good.

“This track now … you can sit wide at Flemington now, as long as you've got cover. It's a nicely balanced surface that felt great under foot.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Influential Miss): 21.00 out to 26.00.
Favourite (Aloha): 5.00 out to 7.00 into 6.50. Finished fifth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer Mr C Waller was fined the sum of $200 for failing to produce identity papers for Vintedge which was having its first start in Victoria.

On jumping Ipioga shifted in and bumped Flotercher which was slow to begin.

Charlie’s Queen was slow to begin.

Vintedge raced wide without cover throughout.

B Stanley rider of Ky’s The Limit (NZ) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that near the 500m he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of Ipioga resulting in that horse getting unbalanced and having to be checked.

B Stanley had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 4 and to expire at midnight November 11, a total of seven race meetings (one city, six country).

In assessing penalty Stewards took into account B Stanley’s guilty plea and the careless riding was in the low range category.

Near the 100m Aloha shifted in and bumped Well Rounded.

S King rider of Influential Miss was fined the sum of $500 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip fourteen times prior to the 100m, several of which were consecutive.

In assessing penalty Stewards took into account S King’s good record under this rule.

K McEvoy rider of Status Quo was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip seven times prior to the 100m.

In assessing penalty Stewards took into account good record under this rule.

Post race veterinary examinations of Starmon (NZ) and Umatain both revealed no abnormalities.
