UNUSUAL WHIP INCIDENT AT THE GOLD COAST
By Graham Potter | Saturday, November 15, 2025
Now you don’t see that every day. It brings a whole new slant to the whip use story.
It happened as the field straightened for home in the fourth race at the Gold Coast when a slight shift out by the eventual winner Dirty Dancing carried Aratirti, the mount of Anthony Allen, out onto Majestic Boom, ridden by Danny Peisley.
While these two runners avoided making contact, for a couple of strides they raced very close together with Allen having his whip in his left hand and Peisley holding his right-handed, and that is when Peisley’s whip was inadvertently snatch away from Peisley by Allen, who for a brief moment found himself with two whips in his left hand.
It only took a couple of strides for Peisley to reach out and for Allen to return the whip and, with order restored, both sets of horse and rider continued on as if nothing had happened.
Both Aratiri and Majestic Boom were at double figure odds in the betting and neither found a place.
Stewards took evidence from both Allen and Peisley after the race ‘relative to their actions’ and the matter was then adjourned to a date to be fixed.
