FLEM NOV 02 - MARSHMAN AND YENDALL RISE TO THE BIG OCCASSION

By Taron Clarke | Thursday, November 4, 2010

Flemington, November 2, 2010.
Track - Slow 6. Rail - Out 3m. Penetrometer: 4.83.
MSS Security Sprint Open Handicap - 1200m.
Time: 1-11.20. 600m Sectional: 36.50. (Carrying 53kg).
1 Snapparazi; 2 Trim; 3 Perturbo.
Margins: 0.5L x 0.5L

Consistent little galloper Snapparazi scored his biggest victory of his short career when he scored a deserved win in the MSS Security Sprint over 1200 metres.

The bay gelding was facing a quantum leap in grade by taking on open company sprinters for the first time.

Trained at Hamilton by Barbara Marshman, the son of Arazi was coming off two consecutive victories on the country circuit at Ballarat and Terang before stepping out on the world’s biggest stage.

Well supported in the betting ring after firming from 51.00 in to start at 31.00, the four year old gelding was partnered by Dean Yendall.

The win took Snapparazi’s record to four wins from only seven starts and over $108,000 in stakes earnings

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Barbara Marshman: “He's a slow-maturing horse. As you can see he's still got a long way to go.

“He's got to learn to go straight. We've got all the gear imaginable on the poor little fella!

“I came to Flemington because he is so reliable. I thought, ‘he's not going to disgrace us here'. He'll do something and there's plenty of room at Flemington to go from one side to the other.

“It is a big thrill. When you breed a horse and get it to the races this early in Melbourne, it's an enormous thrill.

“I said, if we win this we're going to win enough without backing him. Everybody else did, but I'm not a punter. I just love to see them win.”

Jockey Dean Yendall: “It's been a long time coming I've been getting a few rides at city meetings and it's always a good feeling to ride a winner today.

“I always like to thank Barb for putting me on through the year. I always get the job for her.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Snapparazi): 41.00 out to 51.00 into 31.00.
Favourite (True Persuasion): 3.00 out to 3.70. Finished ninth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Cocinero was a late withdrawal at 12.05pm and The Fugitive at 12.20pm both due to the downgrade of the track.

Anavalanche blundered badly on jumping away.

After passing the 1000m True Persuasion was crowded for room between Produced (NZ) which shifted out and Ahdashim (NZ) which shifted in.

This resulted in So Elusive (NZ) which was following having to be checked to avoid the heels of True Persuasion, shifted in abruptly severely hampering Perturbo.

In all the circumstances no direct action was taken other than to warn N Rawiller (Ahdashim (NZ)) and M Payne (Produced (NZ)) to exercise more care.

C Newitt (True Persuasion) advised that the horse had felt amiss in its action throughout.

A subsequent veterinary examination of True Persuasion revealed the horse had been galloped on on its off-hind leg and had also cast its off-hind plate.
