WALSH BAY LOOKING TO EXTEND AN ALREADY IMPRESSIVE WINNING SEQUENCE

Walsh Bay has been the gift that keeps on giving for the Chris and Corey Munce training partnership this season with the four-year-old having maintained an undefeated record in her three-year-old campaign, running up a most impressive six run winning sequence from August 16 to November 22 which took from a Maiden winner to a hat-trick of Cup successes … landing all of the Toowoomba Cup, the Queensland Cup and the Mooloolaba Cup to have her prize-money earnings closing in on half-a-million dollars. On Saturday at Eagle Farm Walsh Bay takes on an Open Handicap over 1800m where a win would take her winning sequence to seven and her prize-money through the $500 000 mark. Walsh Bay’s last start win in the Mooloolaba Cup came after a month freshen-up over 1600m and the step up to 1800m on Saturday follows the formula that previously served Walsh bay so well when she gradually increased the distance test from 1600m … to 1800m … to 2000m … to 2400m as her career built momentum with win after win. A win by Walsh Bay would also give the Munce stable something to cheer about after a big disappointment earlier this week when they were not happy when the way that Cool Archie, the Queensland’s Two-Year-Old Horse Of The Year, pulled up after a trackwork gallop in preparation for his scheduled return to action in the Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Cool Archie was withdrawn from the race and sent for scans.
