WILDSPITZE GETS IT RIGHT AT GATTON

By Graham Potter | Friday, December 5, 2025

Wildspitze claimed his first win in his seventh start when he took out a Maiden Plate over 1400m at Gatton on December 4.

The three-year-old son of Cool Aza Beel had finished in third place in three of his six pervious starts … including twice in his last three outings … and, while not setting the town alight, that was enough to see him installed as the race favourite here.

He jumped at a starting price of $2.10 and justified his place on the betting boards by claiming victory by a 0.67 length margin.

Dylan Turner ensured that Wildspitze made every use of his inside barrier draw (number two) by getting the Sears trained runner away smartly and then getting across to hug the running rail, right in the leading line in the early part.

When the speed came around Wildspitze, Turner exercised patience in allowing Wildspitze to settle just a couple of lengths off the two runners who were vying for the lead … but he then got more active in the saddle approaching the home turn, where he did nor corner the best … he swung four wide … but he did have momentum on his side now and he quickly forged into a narrow lead.

Wildspitze did have the $41 bolter Trust In The Rock in tow though and the latter looked likely to be genuine threat over the closing stages, but that never quite materialised due to Trust in The Rock running right in behind Wildspitze, shifting out and then running in again … in other words not doing himself any favours as he was held at bay by Wildspitze by a margin of just over half-a-length.
