Tony Gollan has announced that Lindsay Hatch will be joining the multiple premiership-winning stable in the role as assistant trainer, taking charge of Gollan’s Gold Coast stable operation.
Hatch will bring a double dimension of experience to the position, not only through his own training expertise gained over many years in the game, but also via his proven track record in mentoring, improving and progressing the careers of young riders to good effect.
Apart from having run his own training set-up, Hatch gained so much in his earlier years when working with an impressive list of racing identities including T J Smith, John Hawkes, John Sadler, Peter and Paul Snowden and Kelso Wood.
Hatch’s understanding of both horse and rider will be an invaluable asset to the Gollan yard.
He is the perfect fit in the stable’s growth plan having a first-hand knowledge of the demands and expectations of the Gollan stable’s operation, having successfully pre-trained horses for Gollan for some time.
“First and foremost, it enhances our ability to race more horses directly out of the Gold Coast stable,” said Gollan.
“Lindsay is also great in the education and preparation of young horses which is important given the number of yearlings we purchase each year.
“His training ability is without question, and he comes to the stable as a lifelong family friend.
“Lindsay also brings with him the ability to mentor apprentice jockeys, and we see this as another great benefit to the stable moving forward.”
Hatch and Gollan have already effectively been working in tandem for a long period of time in this latter role with the Hatch apprentices moving on to Gollan in a winning pattern where the input of these two trainers helped Baylee Nothdurft to become the first apprentice to win the Brisbane Metropolitan Premiership (in 2019/20) since Zac Purton (in 2002/03) … and Angela Jones to become the first female rider to win the Brisbane Metropolitan Premiership (in 2024/25).
There is no question, Gollan and Hatch will continue to be a formidable combination.
A new start, maybe, but it is likely to continue to be an familiar success story.
