THE DECISION HAS BEEN TAKEN TO RETIRE ANTINO, A TWO-TIME QUEENSLAND HORSE OF THE YEAR

The Tony Gollan trained Antimo … the 2024 and 2025 Queensland Horse of The year … has been retired.
The thirteen-time winner … wins which included the Group 1 Toorak Handicap and last year’s Group 1 Doomben Cup … raced at Eagle Farm in the Brisbane Handicap last Saturday and, although finishing as a beaten favourite in fourth place, the well performed son of Redwood appeared to have got a pass mark immediately after the race, given that he carried 61kg on a heavy 8 racing surface … but, a day later, on Sunday, any cause for optimism sadly fell away which it was established that Antino had heat and swelling in his right-fore tendon.
The Gollan stable media release today explained what followed.
The release stated:
‘Further veterinary examinations this morning (Monday) confirmed that Antino had suffered an injury to that tendon during the race.
‘After consultation with the ownership group, the decision was taken to retire Antino from racing.’
Antino bows out with a proud record of thirteen wins and seven places from thirty-three starts with $3 465 065 banked in prize-money.
