TEAM SEARS ON A ROLL - CAN EITHER NIGHTLINE OR STEADY READY KEEP THE STREAK GOING AT THE COAST?

By Graham Potter | Friday, May 8, 2026

The Tony and Maddysen Sears training partnership will still be on a high following the victory of their stable star Yellow Brick in the $1 million Archer at Rockhampton on Tuesday, but a look beyond that also shows that the stable is on quite roll at the moment, one they will be looking to extend into Saturday at the Gold Coast where they send out Nightline in the Gold Coast Bracelet and Steady Ready in the Bat Out Of Hell.

While Yellow Brick was the star, there have plenty of positive supporting role players doing their bit for the Sears camp with the likes of Hellarious, Switch The Stars and October also already adding their names to the list of Sears trained winners in May with the month only being a little over a week old.

Nightline, who is Queensland Oaks bound, resumed in fine fettle last start in the Listed Princess Stakes over 1600m, rattling home to arrive only a stride or two late to be able to reel in Spicy Lu and She Moves Too, so she had to settle for a close-up third placing coming home, beaten by a fast diminishing 0.34 length margin at the line.

In her first preparation, the black daughter of Redwood was a three-time winner from six starts, including a win in The Eagle Way over 2100m, a result which confirmed she will prefer a longer distance than she raced over in the Princess Stakes.

The 1800m of the Gold Coast Bracelet will be better, although it must be remembered it is also a stepping stone to the Queensland Oaks which will be contested on June 6 over 2200m.

Mark Du Plessis, who has ridden Nightline in her last four starts, again has the ride.

Steady Ready, for his part, resumes after close to a two month break from racing action, in the Bat Out Of Hell.

While his form this season has not been anywhere as good as it once was, Steady Ready has won three times in nine first up starts and if he does come back in a galloping mood after being freshened up, he certainly has the speed to give his opponents something to think about.

Tommy Berry, who helped win the big one with Yellow Brick at Rockhampton, will link up again with the Sears team here. He will ride Steady Ready.
