EF FEB 02 - SIDE TO SIDE IS ON THE MOVE

By Graham Potter | Thursday, February 3, 2011

Eagle Farm, February 2, 2011.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 8m.
Class 4 Handicap - 1500m.
1 Side To Side; 2 Oscar The Great; 3 Fantastic Force.
Time: 1-29.63 (carrying 56.5kg). Last 600m: 35.47.
Margins: 1.00; 1.00.

The racing career of the Barry Baldwin trained Side To Side is moving ahead at a fair pace. The relatively lightly raced son of Easy Rocking lifted his strike-rate to five wins from fifteen starts and the five-year-old has won two out of his three starts this prep.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Chris Munce: “They all had their chance to run him down in the straight if they were good enough.

“He was well suited back in midweek today … Class 4.

“He was a lot fitter today (in his third run back following nearly six months away from the action). It was a nice surface for him to gallop on and he did the job.

“He put paid to them halfway up the straight and he was strong all the way to the line.

“If he can stay calm, like he did today, I think he’s a chance of getting ten furlongs. He’s just got to learn to stay calm that’s all.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Side To Side): 2.60 out to 3.00.
Favourite (Fantastic Force): 1.80 out to 1.90. Finished third.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Schillinsworth was declared a late scratching at 11.28 am on veterinary advice.

Satula (M. Palmer) jumped away awkwardly and brushed Oscar The Great (B. El-Issa).

Near the 1100m, Side To Side (C. Munce) commenced to over-race and shifted out to avoid the heels of Ghostnthedarkness (J. Wood).

Passing the 800m, Side To Side shifted in and bumped Ghostnthedarkness.

Fantastic Force (G. Colless) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight, and near the 300m shifted in and brushed Old Mates Act (S. Scriven).

After passing the 200m, Ghostnthedarknesss, which was weakening, was momentarily steadied when tightened for room between Old Mates Act and Oscar The Great, which shifted out. B. El-Issa, rider of Oscar The Great, was advised to exercise more care in future.

Following this race, G. Colless was examined by the doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements.
