CAUL FEB 12 - TYPHOON TRACY BACK ON TOP

By Graham Potter | Monday, February 14, 2011

Caulfield, February 12, 2011.
Track - Dead 4. Rail - True. Penetrometer: 5.16.
C. F. Orr Stakes (Group 1) - 1400.
1 Typhoon Tracy; 2 Heart Of Dreams; 3 Ortensia.
Time: 1-22.72 (Carrying 57kg).

The brilliance that Typhoon Tracy displayed when notching up a five race winning sequence (including four Group 1 successes) from October 2009 to April 2010 is arguably now not quite as powerful an influence on her big race outcome as it was back in those times when she was blitzing her opposition … but she remains no less a formidable rival.

With all of the variables in racing, the one constant throughout the years has been there is absolutely no substitute for class and Typhoon Tracy has that in abundance.

A touch down on speed she might be, but when her rare talent comes bolstered with the type of determined single-mindedness, which was so clearly on display in this latest win at Caulfield, there is no doubting her prowess and her ability to continue to add Group 1 victories to her resume is very much alive and well.

Typhoon Tracy is now an eleven-time winner (with five minor placings) from twenty starts. So far, she has banked just shy of $2.5 million in stake earnings.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Moody: “It’s great to see her back on top, you know. It was hard fought. She toughed it out. She was there to be beaten, but she stood up today.

“I’m very proud to see her back in the position she belongs.

‘It’s hard to say if she is as good as she was twelve months ago or eighteen months ago, but, at home, she’s giving me the feel she still wants to be there.

“She is working a treat. You look at her in the yard. There wasn’t a horse presented better than her. She is in great shape so, you know, onwards and upwards.

“We’ll just come here for the Futurity in a fortnight. I’m probably wishing … the way she raced today … that it was a mile the way it was last year.

“She was trained as a sort of middle distance horse in the Spring. I trained all the speed out of her. I’ve struggled to get it back into her, but she guts it out today.

“Maybe that’s something I will have visit. Do I come back here for seven furlongs? Does she want a mile? These things we’ll worry about after today … we’ll just enjoy the moment.

“Like I said earlier in the week, she’s not going to go around for the sake of going around. As long as she’s in the form that we know she should be then we’ll keep pushing on.”

Jockey Luke Nolen: “She did have a perfect run.

“Instead of being a sort of sit and sprint we dragged it out from just past the 600. That played to her strength a little bit I suppose.

“She was there to be beaten, but she is a courageous mare and a win is a win.

“I think she is open to further improvement too. There a few little things we can deal with at home just to keep her comfortable.

“She might appear that she doesn’t seem to have that dash over the shorter trip that she used to have, but that is probably exaggerated by the fact that the other night (when beaten by Whitefriars over 1200m at Moonee Valley) they dragged the turn of foot away from her.

“She had that hard run and today she was probably still feeling the effects of it.

“The main thing is she won.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Typhoon Tracy): 2.00 steady.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
It was established with trainer Mr T Noonan that Ortensia would be ridden more forward in this event and an announcement was made. Ortenisa settled fourth.

Correct weight was delayed when the Stewards viewed the film before deciding not to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of Doubtful Jack (fifth placegetter).

Near the 1200m Luen Yat Forever got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Spacecraft.

A short distance afterwards Luen Yat Forever continued to race ungenerously with its head up when being restrained. Luen Yat Forever continued to race wide without cover.

Rounding the turn near the 300m Doubtful Jack attempted a run where there was doubtful room to the inside of Danzylum and subsequently Doubtful Jack was checked near the 200m when Danzylum shifted back towards the fence.

The Stewards could not be satisfied there was a full run for Doubtful Jack and for that reason no further action was taken.
