DOOM MAR 12 - BULLET PROOF OUTGUNS RIVER LAD

By Graham Potter | Monday, March 14, 2011

Doomben, March 12, 2011.
Track - Dead 4. Rail - Out 2m (1200 - 900). Out 1m the remainder.
Class 6 Handicap - 1200m.
1 Bullet Proof; 2 River Lad; 3 Lotseventy.
Time: 1-09.86. (Carrying 55kg). Last 600m: 33.91.
Margins: 0.50; 0.75.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Lindsay Gough: “That was a great ride (from Damian Browne). Ten out of ten.

“The horse got a good record since he came up here (two wins from three starts).

“Mate, look, the boys at home have worked hard on him. He’s got bad feet. He spends a lot of time at the beach.

“He probably should be three out of three. He came out to make a run the other day and got knocked off his feet. One came out underneath him the other day and held him up. It cost him the race I think, but he’s going well.

“Today … you know … we are probably learning about the horse. We had him in good shape today.”

“He’ll possibly go to the Weetwood.”

Jockey Damian Browne: “I really wanted to keep River Lad in my sights. With the pull in the weights I didn’t want him to get away from me.

“I also had Seek And Find to my outside … so I had the two favourite runners around me and I was able to do what I wanted to do.

“It took me a little bit to get out on him. I sort of got held up behind River Lad, but once he got out he really let down.

“Shane (Scriven) said to me after he won on him that he has got a really good turn of foot for a short distance … and probably not to get there too soon.

“So I wasn’t really panicking about getting out too much … just as long as I did!”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Bullet Proof): 6.50 out to 7.50.
Favourite (River Lad): 2.50 in to 2.20. Finished second.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer P. Fleming was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare K. Wharton as the rider of Citiwyse by the prescribed time.

Titanium Rock (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly.

Citiwyse (K. Wharton) also jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Passing the 900m Toptwo (M. Hellyer) commenced to pull hard and shifted out off the heels of Our Mr Cashman (J. Wood), which resulted in Budabar (B. Stewart) being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track.

L. Cassidy, the rider of Lotseventy, was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for allowing his mount to shift in near the 750m and tighten the running of Citiwyse, resulting in Citiwyse having to be steadied.

Seek And Find (C. Munce) was inclined to lay out under pressure rounding the home turn.

In the early part of the straight Toptwo shifted out under pressure resulting in Budabar being taken wider on the track. Apprentice M. Hellyer, the rider of Toptwo, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

Bullet Proof (D. Browne) was held up and unable to obtain clear running until after passing the 150m where it shifted out to improve and brushed Kalkie Kane (L. Rolls).

Near the 50m Falvelina (P. Hammersley) was inconvenienced when I'm Ruthless (E. Wilkinson) shifted out under pressure.

C. Munce reported that Seek And Find over-raced through the middle stages which he felt had a telling effect on the horse's capacity to finish the race off.
