DOOM MAR 12 - LUCKY LEAK ON A ROLL
By Graham Potter | Monday, March 14, 2011
Doomben, March 12, 2011. Track - Good 3. Rail - Out 2m (1200 - 900). Out 1m the remainder. Open Handicap - 1350m. 1 Lucky Leak; 2 Zippy Lou; 3 Essington. Time: 1-19.57. (Carrying 55kg). Last 600m: 35.37. Margins: Neck; 1.00.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Jockey Bobby El-Issa: “I expected him to run very well from a good draw.
“I was only hoping that the favourite would have a bit of bad luck from his alley and apparently he did. It was always going to be a two-horse race I thought. The winner was going to come from one of us.
“I’ve got three wins today now, but it’s like the old saying … you are only as good as the horse you get on, but, yeah, I’m doing alright.
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Lucky Leak): 5.00 steady. Favourite (Essington): 1.60 steady. Finished third.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Trainer D. Hansen was reprimanded under LR. 67 for failing to declare C. Munce as the rider of Essington by the prescribed time.
Stewards permitted R. McMahon to replace apprentice M. Speers as the rider of Wild Hero when no other apprentice who could ride at the weight was available.
As R. Wiggins was stood by the Club doctor following his ride in Race 6, he was replaced by E. Wilkinson on Tenfold and by apprentice Michael Palmer on Troopingthecolour in Race 7 when no other senior rider was available.
Connections advised that, from the difficult barrier, Tenfold will be ridden in a midfield position with cover if circumstances permit.
Bitabiff (Michael Palmer) shifted in at the start and made heavy contact with Tom's Rocket (L. Rolls).
Wild Hero (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
Essington (C. Munce), Cat Eyes (M. Hellyer), Kneel And Raise (L. Cassidy) and Heart Of The Citi (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
Apprentice L. Rolls, the rider of Tom's Rocket, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Barlinnie (J. Wood), resulting in Barlinnie having to be checked to avoid the heels of Tom's Rocket, and further that apprentice Rolls continued to allow his mount to shift in resulting in Changing Eyes (J. Holder) being taken in on to Zippy Lou (Matthew Palmer), which had to be steadied as a consequence.
Further, that apprentice Rolls continued to allow his mount to shift in and tighten the running of both Changing Eyes and Lucky Leak (B. El-Issa) between Tom's Rocket and the running rail.
Apprentice L. Rolls' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine meetings, to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 16 March and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 30 March 2011.
Kneel And Raise over-raced in the early stages and for some distance passing the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of Heart Of The Citi.
For some distance passing the 800m Changing Eyes, which had a tendency to over-race, was placed awkwardly at the heels of Helideck (G. Colless) and had to be steadied on several occasions.
A post-race veterinary examination of Helideck, which compounded badly over the final 250m, revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal post-race recovery rate.
Trainer G. Ryan's stable representative was advised that Helideck will require a veterinary clearance as well as trialling to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.
