EF MAR 23 - ZIPPITY JET FLIES HOME
By Graham Potter | Thursday, March 24, 2011
Eagle Farm, March 23, 2011. Track - Dead 5. Rail - out 9m. Three-year-old Handicap - 1000m. 1 Zippity Jet; 2 Excellantes; 3 Wild Promises. Time: 58.38. (Carrying 55kg). Last 600m: 34.72. Margins: Long-head; 0.75.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Col Williamson: “He is a lovely horse. That was a good win that.
“They ran him off his legs early and he came around the home turn fifteen deep and he still beat them.
“Yeah, you can forget that last run (before being spelled). He was at the end of his preparation. He was still a baby and he’d just had enough.
“The day he won at Ipswich (in the second last run of his previous preparation) it was terribly wet and it took a lot more out of him than I realized at the time.
“Yeah, I played around with the gear as well (tongue-tie off, cross-over nose band on) … just working him out.
“You’ve got to be a psychologist in this caper … not just for the horses either. Sometimes the jockeys take a little bit of working out, I’ll tell you.”
Jockey Michael Palmer: “He is a horse on the way up.
“He trialled well a couple of weeks ago at Deagon. On his trial he was going to be very hard to beat in the race today.
“He is a real big striding horse. When he lets down he lets down fast and really well and he can sustain a long sprint.
“I could feel him sort of half dig again when that horse came back at him. You know, he showed he had that bit of fight in him which is another positive sign.
“He was first-up. He had a bit of a blow today so hopefully he will improve on that.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Zippity Jet): 11.00 out to 12.00. Favourite (Exellantes): 1.80 in to 1.70 out to 1.75. Finished second.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: As B. Wallace was dually engaged on Queen Thyra and Chandra, J. Wood was substituted as the rider of Chandra. B. Wallace was fined $100.
After travelling a short distance, Chandra (J. Wood) struck the heels of Wild Promises (J. Bowditch) when that runner shifted in slightly and Tabassi (G. Colless) shifted out.
Bust ‘N' Loose (E. Wilkinson) and Texas Red (L. Cassidy) made contact at the start.
Near the 800m, Tabassi was taken in slightly by Wild Promises, which shifted in, and shortly after shifted in away from that runner and made contact with Excellantes (D. Browne).
Passing the 500m, Queen Thyra (B. Wallace) hung out away from Bust ‘N' Loose, which shifted out slightly and had to be checked to avoid the heels of Excellantes.
A post race veterinary examination of Chandra failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
