SCRIVEN HANDED FIVE MONTH BAN
By Graham Potter | Thursday, April 21, 2011
The future race-riding career of jockey Shane Scriven hangs in the balance after Racing Queensland Stewards handed the veteran rider a five month suspension after he had pleaded guilty to a charge of improper riding.
The charge stemmed from Scriven’s actions when riding Requested in the closing stages of the last race at Ipswich on Friday, April 15. After having his own whip knocked from his right hand Scriven forcefully snatched a whip out of rival jockey apprentice Ben Looker’s left hand and proceeded to ride his mount out to the line where Requested only failed by a nose in his bid for victory. Looker’s mount, Toronto Dancer finished a further short-half-head back in third place.
Scriven has confirmed he will exercise his right of appeal.
In a further sequel to the same incident, the Kelly Schweida trained Requested was disqualified from the race and jockey Ben Looker was suspended for two weeks for failing to report the incident.
