WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN, AUGUST 1, 2026
By Darren Winningham | Friday, July 31, 2026
DOOMBEN – with nine races scheduled for decision. The track is rated “SOFT”. The rail is out 4.5 metres the entire track. There is overcast weather, but looks like no rain around in the lead up to the races.
It is August 1 – the HORSES BIRTHDAY – so happy birthday to our superstars of the turf!
Congratulations also to our 2025/26 Brisbane Premiership winners: Leading trainer – Tony Gollan. Leading jockey – Ben Thompson. Leading apprentice – Jace McMurray.
A big shout out to Adam Campton’s rising star apprentice on the Gold Coast Bella Youngberry who created history winning the apprentices and the open jockey title on her home track at the Gold Coast, the first time that has been achieved by a female rider – a spectacular season and I cannot wait to see her showing off her amazing talent in town. She has seven rides at this Doomben meeting.
Probably we should also celebrate the failing of the other “Horses” in Brisbane – known as the ‘BRONCOS’ – their 2025 premiership defence is now mathematically impossible – setting another notable record as the first team in 20 years not to make the finals after winning the competition in the preceding year!
