JAMIE MELHAM JUMPS SHIP. MARK ZAHRA IS THE NEW JOCKEY FOR HALF YOURS

Half Yours, the 2025 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup winning hero, will push forward to his defence of the Caufield Cup with a change of jockey in the form of Mark Zahra after his regular rider Jamie Melham elected to ride the Bjorn Baker trained Blue Door in the $20 million The Everest in Sydney on the same day.
Melham has ridden the Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained chestnut in hiss last ten starts dating back to September 2025 when she first won on the son of St Jean in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes at Caulfield.
Melham’s decision could impact on her Melbourne Cup options moving forward as indicated by Half Yours’ co-trainer Tony McEvoy.
Talking to Racenet, McEvoy stated, “Jamie’s made a call and I respect it but Mark is in the driver’s seat and if he wants to ride him in the big Cup, he can.”
Half Yours finished fifth under Melham in the Group 1 Turnbull on Saturday over 2000m when racing second-up … after resuming over 1600m … and he seems to be building nicely enough into his latest campaign.
