HOT AND HIGH JUST TOO GOOD IN THE ASIAN BEAU
By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 31, 2026
Hot And High scored her third successive win … and an amazing eighth win from nine career starts … when she once again proved too good for her opposition when taking out the $200 000, Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes over 1400m at Ascot.
Although winning is almost second nature to the Dion Luciani trained daughter of Too Darn Hot, the four-year-old mare was breaking important new ground here as this was her first win at Group 3 level, making that natural progression in style after her two previous wins in this hat trick sequence came at Listed level in the Belmont Guineas and the R S Crawford Stakes.
Talk about a horse knowing where the winning post is!
Hot And High’s last five wins have all been achieved by a half-a-length margin or less. In other words, she is turned being in front when it matters most into an artform, seemingly enjoying being involved in a battle, although it did get too close on one occasion with the only blemish on her form-line coming when the photo-finish went against her, by the narrowest of margins, in the Listed Raconteur Stakes.
Chris {Parnham jumped Hot And high (the $2 favourite) sweetly from the number one barrier before settling the Luciani trained runner in third spot, getting the run of the race on the rail, poised just two lengths off the lead. Hot and High was then back to fourth mid-race, but still well within touch of the leader Playing It Sweet ($5.50), who still held sway when she brought a fairly, well bunched field into the home straight with Hot And High now locked up on the rail and in danger of not getting a clear run.
Parnham had to earn his riding fee by searching for, and finding a way out for Hot And High, which he did by switching the Luciani trained runner out around the heels of Playing It Sweet just inside the 200m … but he needed a willing partner in that move and Hot And High was certainly that, as she shifted out on cue, bullied the $101 chance Mojo Rhythm, who had been racing to her outside, out of the way … and then set sail for home with a display of fierce acceleration.
Hot And High only got to the front with 40m left to run and she had to sustain her run all the way to the line to be able to claim another victory as she had a wall of horses coming at her over the concluding stages, but she did get home with 0.66 lengths to spare from Zipaway ($41) as only a little over a length margin separated the runners finishing in second to seventh position.
Hot And High’s Asian Beau win not only came with a $109 600 payday which pushed her prizemoney earnings to $566 760, but it also came with a bonus of a ballot-free entry in the Group 1 Railway Stakes which will be contested at Ascot on November 21.
