Eagle Farm, October 1, 2011. QTIS Three-year-old Handicap (No sex restriction) - 1500m. 1 Strip Show; 2 Like A Gee; 3 Bevico Girl; 4 Carlson's Felt. Track: Good 3. Rail: True. Time: 1-30.30 Last 600: 36.46.
The Queensland arm of the Patinack stable has been firing in Brisbane since they settled on the Brett Killian / Tim Bell … stable foreman / rider combination and the team landed another impressive double at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The three-year-old chestnut filly Strip Show got the show on the road with a facile win in the opening event on the card.
The daughter of Show A Heart had kicked off her career with a fourth placing at Eagle Farm over 1200m back on September 7. She encountered traffic problems on that occasion yet rallied to finish only 1.40 lengths off the winner (Geological), a result which boded well for the future.
Strip Show immediately put that experience to good use when stepping up to 1350m at Doomben second-up where she landed her first career win with the ease of a horse on the way up.
Saturday’s result, in which she completed the double … again with consummate ease … was equally as impressive. She clearly took the step up to 1500m in her stride and the message she sent out was a very positive one.
Strip Show does need to be more fully tested to gauge her true potential, but she is being managed very well at this stage of proceedings as her runs have not only allowed her to build race experience, but the results the stable have set her up for will have done wonders for her confidence.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Brett Killian (stable foreman for the John Thompson stable): “It helps drawing a good alley. It had to finish off obviously though and she did that well.
“She just keeps improving. Six weeks ago she was going nowhere this horse. We changed the track-work rider. Full credit to a bloke called Chris Hull. He’s done a magnificent job. He’s taught her to settle. He’s just done a wonderful job with her.
“She’s learning from her race experience. She probably learnt a lot from her debut where she was a bit unlucky. She got knocked around a bit. She showed that when he won well in her second start and has now done it again. She’s going good.
“She’s got the looks to match … a flashy type with a beautiful head.
“It’s all looking good.”
Jockey Tim Bell: “Barriers draws are everything and we were blessed with barrier one today.
“She box-seated very nicely. She was always comfortable coming to the turn.
“She’s still a very green filly … learning to race now.
“I was a little bit hesitant to get to work on her too early because she is a strong filly in the head, but once she put her mind to it she was always going to push that other horse out of the way … and she then went for home like she should have.
“She’s not right in the head yet. She’s going to benefit from that again.
“She’s already winning her races. She is already a versatile horse and she is a filly that is going to get a lot better with more racing, so she might turn out to be a nice little racehorse in the near future”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Strip Show): 3.30 out to 3.40 in to 2.90. The winner was the favourite.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Connections advised that Venture On would be ridden just off the speed if possible. Venture On subsequently settled towards the rear of the field.
Dazzling Kind (R. Wiggins) commenced to lay out leaving the 800m and did so for the remainder of the race.
Bevico Girl (J. Byrne) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and was inclined to shift ground over the concluding stages when under pressure.
