TRAINER TREVOR BAILEY EXPLAINS WHY HE'S RELOCATING TO NEWCASTLE

Trainer Trevor Bailey has confirmed his move to Newcastle. Speaking to HRO at the Gold Coast yesterday, Bailey was happy to explain the reason behind his decision to change states.
Trevor Bailey: “Yes, I have decided to relocate to Newcastle.
“The motivation for that is simply that I want to try and do the right thing by my owners … and also myself. If I didn’t go down there I think I would lose most of my horses … like I think a lot of people will.
“Realistically, it’s no use getting out of bed and making fifty dollars when it’s costing you fifty-two dollars to do that. You’re going to go broke. So, yeah, I’m looking after my business interests.
“I don’t want to be harsh on anybody here in Queensland. They’ve got their problems and it’s up to them to correct them.
“I’ll be leaving for Newcastle towards the end of January. I’ll probably take about a dozen horses with me.
“The reason for choosing Newcastle? I didn’t want to go to Sydney. I don’t like Sydney itself, but the truth of the matter is there wasn’t really any choice.
“There is virtually no room at any other tracks … and there won’t be much room either when they put the prize-money up. So that’s the reason why I’m going to Newcastle.
“I was approved by the board there last Thursday week and I’m just waiting for them to come back with the allocation of boxes.
“There is also an airport there, so I can come and see my kids very regularly.”
Bailey is not alone in his thinking and, as he indicated, he is simply being proactive in looking to make a call which will help secure a viable future for his stable.
His is a personal decision but his observation, ‘They’ve got their problems and it’s up to them to correct them’ when referring to racing in Queensland has a hint of a well intended warning to it.
Hopefully somebody takes heed.
