BRC JUL 08 - DADDYS LITTLE GIRL GETS HER WAY

By Matthew Grimson | Thursday, July 9, 2009

Eagle Farm, July 8, 2009.
Class 4 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) - 1200m. Time: 1-12.60.
Track - Dead 5. Rail - out 5m.
1 Daddys Little Girl; 2 Gag Order; 3 Seething Duck.

The Gillian Heinrich trained Daddys Little Girl dictated the course of events from the break, crossing with ease to lead from an outside draw and then controlling the tempo to her advantage throughout the running.

Jockey Brad Stewart rated the filly to perfection, backing up her rivals early on and then kicking right away from them at the business end of affairs while still only pushing his mount out with hands and heels.

A sideways glance by Stewart inside the furlong confirmed that Daddys Little Girl already had her race won and she strolled home to a comfortable success - the second of her career from eleven starts.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Gillian Heinrich: “Her last run was really good first up. Battlefield (who won there) went on and won the Ascot Handicap last Saturday so the writing was on the board for her to go on and win this race today.

“We were confident. Obviously Liam Birchley’s horse (Gag Order) was the one to beat. It’s also got good form and we had half a kilo more than her (not including Chris McIver’s 2kgs claim on the runner-up).

“At this stage 1200m is her distance. As she goes on she’ll probably start to go a little bit further up. We don’t have any plans for her at the moment.”

Jockey Brad Stewart: “She jumped well. Yeah, I got to the lead pretty easy and I just sort of controlled the tempo from there. I was always confident. She won well.

“It was the first time I’d ridden her. I didn’t really have any plans going in. I knew I’d be in the first three. It worked out good in the end, leading.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Daddys Little Girl): 3,30 out to 3.50 in to 3.40.
Favourite (Gag Order): 2.80 out to 3.10 in to 2.90. Finished second.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Seething Duck (M. Cahill) over-raced at the heels of Daddy’s Little Girl (B. Stewart) near the 1000m. Gag Order (C. McIver) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight, and leaving the 400m shifted in, crowding Stratella (G. Colless). Show Biz Miss (S. Seamer) and Vera’s Pride (B. Pengelly) were caught wide and raced wide for the majority of the race.
