EF SEPT 1 - JET STYLE SCRAPES THE PAINT ON HIS WAY TO COMPLETING A DOUBLE
By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 2, 2012
Eagle Farm, September 1, 2012. Track - Good 3, Rail out 1m. Class 6 Handicap - 1400m. 1 Jet Style; 2 Koranovsky; 3 Catashee; 4 Santo de Lago. Time: 1-22.41. Last 600: 35.25. Margins: 1.30; 2.30.
Jet Style hugged the rail from start to finish under a copybook ride from Ryan Hurdle to claim back to back wins … his latest success at Eagle Farm on Saturday following on from his Class 4 win over the same distance at the Gold Coast back on August 18.
Hurdle was happy to sit just off the speed in the early part, content to track the favourite Koranovsky who he gambled would take him into the race at the right time.
Koronovsky did just that, slipping up on the inside of the early front-runners Mr Orient and Starlin early in the straight to take up the running with 300m left to run.
At that stage there was room for Jet Style, who had followed the favourite through, to switch out off the heels of Koranovsky, but that might have cost valuable metres, so Hurdle persevered with the inside run, which was now tightening up on the heels of Koranovsky.
It was only inside the final 150m that Hurdle’s perseverance was rewarded as a run finally presented itself hard against the rail and Jet Style was then able to set about reeling in Koranovsky, which he did with meaning, eventually striding away from his rival to score an emphatic win.
Jet Style is now a six time winner from twenty-four starts and has earned $79,850.
Jet Style (Tycoon Ruler - Over and Over) is owned by Mrs K L Sutton, W D Gannon, L D Schwenke, B Grills, Br Lockyer, D H Sutton & N J Campbell. The six-year-old gelding was bred by R Frappell.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Donald Baker: “He had everything going for him. He drew the number one alley. He had 51kg. He was always a chance.
“We'll just see how he pulls up. We’ll probably try and sneak another one in town if we can.”
Jockey Ryan Hurdle: “We jumped pretty well … landed in the perfect spot.
“The pace was set up almost perfect for us. We were nice on the bit without over-racing. Maija (Vance - riding Koranovsky) was on one of the favoured runners, so I thought I’d track her for as long as I can.
“She started rolling off the fence and I was actually travelling better than her horse so I thought, I’m going to get up here. I had to call to her a few times to let her know where I was but once I got into the gap it was all over.
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Jet Style): 6.00 out to 7.00 in to 4.80. Favourite (Koranovsky): 4.80 in to 4.20 out to 4.60. Finished second.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Near the 1200m, Chandra (D. Browne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between Interview (M. Cahill) and Horoscopes (M. Hellyer), which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
Passing the 1100m, Emoticon (J. Byrne) had to be eased when tightened for room by Catashee (T. Harrison), which shifted in when not quite clear. T. Harrison, rider of Catashee, was advised to take greater are when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Near the 500m, Catashee was taken out slightly by Koranovsky (M. Vance) and made contact with Emoticon (J. Byrne).
From the 350m to the 250m, Jet Style (R. Hurdle) was held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of Koranovsky.
Approaching the 200m, Jet Style secured clear running to the inside of Koranovsky when that runner shifted out slightly under pressure. A short distance later, Koranovsky shifted in slightly, which resulted in Jet Style being tightened onto the running rail.
Been Broke Before (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.
