EF SEPT 1 - PURE PURRFECTION CRACKS HER CITY WIN
By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 2, 2012
Eagle Farm, September 1, 2012. Track - Good 3, Rail out 1m. NMW Handicap - 1000m. 1 Pure Purrfection; 2 Coup Rayvan; 3 Dr Barnard; 4 Savage Time : 57.59. Last 600: 34.44. Margins: 1.00; 1.00.
Pure Purrfection produced a solid, workmanlike performance to improve her strike-rate to three wins from only seven starts when she proved too strong for her rivals in the fifth race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The mare’s previous two wins had been at Toowoomba and this city victory represented a valuable next step for the lightly raced daughter of General Nediym, both in terms of her education and her results as she earned double the amount in stakes in this one run than she had earned in all of her first six starts.
Chris Munce confidently sent the four-year-old chestnut about her business early in the straight and once she got to the front the result was never seriously in doubt, although Coup Rayvan, who followed Pure Purrfection through after being held up in traffic mid-straight, did keep grinding away well enough to ensure that Pure Purrfection was kept honest all the way to the line.
Pure Purrfection (General Nediym – She’s Purring) is owned by D J Paynter, Mrs P H M Gollan, B A Siemsen & Eureka Stud (Mgr: C A McAlpine). She was bred by Mr I Cornell.
Her race record now reads: Three wins from seven starts with $43,600 banked in stake earnings.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Tony Gollan: “She’s starting to put together a nice record now.
“I think we’ve worked out how to ride her … to ride her a bit quieter behind the speed and she finishes off very strongly, so I’m certainly pleased with the win today.
“I think the 1000m run the other day already showed that she is looking for further. We were going to go to a Class 3 Fillies and Mares, but this race was a bit too good to refuse, so we kept her at a 1000 for this, but she will definitely go well over six furlongs.”
Jockey Chris Munce: “I didn’t want to chase her so I wasn’t niggling at her as such early. It was more a case of just keeping her interested in the race and keeping her not far away basically.
“When the run presented itself she couldn’t dash up in there quickly. She is the sort of filly that likes to get down through her gears and get up into it and finish off strong.
“She’ll have no problem going 1100 … or 1200 there. She is a filly with ability. She’s just got to get it all right on the right day.”
PRICE FLUCTUATIONS: Winner (Pure Purrfection): 2.10 out to 2.15 in to 2.10. The winner was the favourite.
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Connections advised that Pure Purrfection would be ridden just off the speed. The horse was ridden accordingly.
As G. Colless was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of Zekeza.
Pure Purrfection (C. Munce) and Coup Rayvan (T. Harrison) made contact at the start. Cryon (M. Hellyer) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Coup Rayvan (T. Harrison) had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight and near the 250m had to alter course to the outside of the heels of Javelentia (J. Lloyd) in order to improve.
Apprentice K. Matheson, rider of One Outed, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out near the 250m, resulting in Dr Barnard (M. Vance) having to be momentarily steadied.
Apprentice Matheson (One Outed) was again reprimanded for shifting out inside the 100m, inconveniencing All That (R. Myers)
One Outed (K. Matheson) and All That (R. Myers) raced wide throughout.
All That lost its near-fore plate in running.
