DOOM OCT 10 - QUARTERLY WINS ON DEBUT, BLEEDS, BARRED FOR THREE MONTHS!

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Doomben, October 10, 2012.
Track - Good 3; Rail - Out 8m.
Maiden Plate (C, G & E) - 1200m.
1 Quarterly; 2 More Colors; 3 Stargrill Boy; 4 Heza Jetsetter.
Time: 1-09.99. Last 600: 34.28.
Margins: 1.80; 0.50.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Chris Jordan: “Yeah, a four-year-having his first start … he kept going shinny down south and they kept putting him away. You know they were never in a hurry to over-race him.

“He trialled at Rosehill (in August) and I got a call from my brother Kerry saying that the horse was for sale. We got onto it and we ended up buying it … and so he has been with me since straight after the trial basically.

“He was pretty right by the time he arrived. He was just immature early on and I was told they’d just taken their time with him. Paul Messara had him, but Arrowfield … they don’t want four-year-old geldings basically. They want nice fillies and nice colts, so I was lucky to get him really.

“He had done a beautiful job with him prior to me getting him. He looked fantastic when he got here.

“He is not a flash worker on the track, but he shows that he can quicken in his work. We had a few Flying Spur’s before when I was with Kerry (when her trained in Sydney) and we found they were better on the fresh side.

“I haven’t sort of tweaked him up as yet, so hopefully he can go on.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Stewards accepted J. Lloyd's explanation for failing to arrive on course on time to fulfil his engagement on More Colors. P. Hammersley was substituted as the rider of that gelding.

Shelling (D. Browne) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Heza Jetsetter (G. Colless). Shelling then shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of More Colors (P. Hammersley), and soon after was bumped again by Heza Jetsetter, which shifted in slightly.

Fairdinkum Lucky (R. Myers) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of More Colors.

In the early stages of the home straight Summers On The Run (L. Cassidy), which was inclined to lay in, was bumped by Quarterly (B. Stewart), which shifted in abruptly before being corrected by its rider.

Quarterly bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer C. Jordan was advised that Quarterly would be ineligible to start for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Shelling lost its off-fore plate in running.
