IPSW NOV 09 - BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR SOFT ANGEL
By Graham Potter | Friday, November 9, 2012
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 2m. Class 1 Handicap - 1350m. 1 Soft Angel; 2 Perfect Cube; 3 Hot Chocolat; 4 On The Liffey. Time: 1-21.16. Last 600: 35.02. Margins: 2.00; 1.80.
WINNER FEEDBACK: Trainer Jeffrey Caught: “The owner picked out a No Metro race at the end of the month after her Maiden win.
"Going from a Maiden to a No Metro is a big jump, that’s why I thought I’d try to get another win today … just to get her a few more points so that hopefully she can get a start in that race in two weeks.
“She has still got a bit of growing to do. She is still a little bit light … immature.
“I think another prep and she’ll be a lot better.
“That was an eleven out of ten ride by Rosie (Myers). Couldn’t fault it at all.
“She’s been on her in all bar one of her last four starts. She knows the horse now. It just takes a bit of time to work them out and obviously Rosie has done just that.
“That No Metro race is only over 1400. So, you know, we’ll just keep her fresh. We won’t do much with her between now and then. Just hold her together … that’s the main thing.”
Jockey Rosie Myers: “She ran well. We just sort of worked her out … you have got to ride her cold.
“I didn’t pull the stick at all.
“She won really nicely.”
“My only problem was returning to scale. The one advertising sign just flapped and she whipped around and dropped me. No harm was done.
“As long as you end up coming back to the winners’ enclosure, it’s all good.”
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT: Soft Angel (R. Myers) began awkwardly.
Near the 1000m Dame Judarius (D. Tanti) shifted in, making contact with Get On (P. Hammersley), which had to be steadied.
More Dust (J. Byrne) and My Mirage (R. Jamieson) over-raced in the early stages.
My Mirage raced wide for the majority of the event.
On The Liffey (A. Pattillo) commenced to hang out leaving the 500m and continued to do so rounding the home turn which allowed Soft Angel, which was racing back and to its inside, to improve inside that runner.
M. Cahill reported to stewards that it was not his intention to lead on Perfect Cube, however the horse had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages.
P. Hammersley reported that Get On resented racing inside horses and he was disappointed with its efforts in finishing the race off.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on Hot Chocolat, apprentice T. Harrison reported that it was not her intention to ride the horse in a forward position, however after beginning well and not being pressured, Hot Chocolat raced comfortably in that position. She added that the horse was having its first run back from a spell and in her opinion may have raced fresh today. Stewards noted her explanation.
